Why Was Beer Manufactured in Aluminum Cans ?

Ask a Question

This surprised me, i never knew beer in cans started as early as 1935, i always thought it only in bottles and kegs

But no surprise to me that it started in the US , Gottfried Krueger Brewery of Newark, New Jersey to be precise

One reason canned beer started was because bottled beer suffered from a condition called 'lightstruck' which gave off a as a skunk-like smell to beer. This happened when blue UV rays of sunlight is exposed to beer in bottles

The bottles also suffered oxidation where oxygen entered by the bottlecaps seal and this also left a strange smell and taste

So along came the can, lighter and more secure against those other conditions

And as they are lighter they are cheaper and easier to transport

So all i can say to that is 'cheers'

How do you prefer yours ?

Thanks for explanation regarding beer in cans. I prefer cans over bottles because I don't have to worry if the can drops on the floor whereas glass bottles has dropped by me several times and smashed and that is money wasted.

Aluminum Beer Cans Keep Beer Fresh for a Long Time. Aluminum also makes it easier to have a good seal on your container, adding an extra layer of protection against spoilage that can come from outside influences.

Bottle. If you drink it from a can you get tin mouth. Never drink beer from a can. Don't drink beer these days. I've never been a big drinker but if I do it's usually wine. Used to drink beer occasionally though I preferred bitter and ale. Hate lager and cider
