What is Steam?

Image

Steam is the digital ultimate entertainment platform developed by Valve Corporation in 2003. Steam provides its users with installation and automatic updating of games as well as a community which features friends lists and groups, cloud saving and in-game voice and chat functionality. They can play, connect, create and more. The free software provides an API or application programming interface called Steamworks, which developers can use to incorporate numerous of Steam’s functions into their products like networking, matchmaking, in-game achievements, micro-transactions and also support for user-created content through their Steam Workshop.

The software was originally developed for use on Microsoft Windows OS, however versions for OS X and Linux were released later on. They also have mobile apps with connected functionality with the main software for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices which was released in the 2010s. Steam’s main service is to provide its users a platform to download games and other software to have in their virtual software libraries to their own computers as game cache files. Later on they introduced SDK or Steamworkds software development kit in 2008 which made it possible for anyone to become a publisher to Steam outside of Valve’s involvement to curate titles on the service.

Customer Reviews

"I've been with Steam for 5 years. 50+ purchases. Great customer service. They've refined their service well." - David Martin

"In all honesty, it's not perfect but it does what it says: You buy a game, you download it and you play it. I have bought more than 50 games, never had a problem with them. Haven't tried their customer support yet, but it seems that people had problems with it in the past. Very decent experience overall." - George Kirponos

"Great for games and the sales that they have. Their customer support leaves much to be desired, but still is helpful in some cases. Love the workshops for the many mods for the many games that they have." - Andrew Dinh

Steam is an online gaming platform that has gained immense popularity over the years. Many users find the interface easy to use, and it offers a vast library of games to choose from. The platform also allows for multiplayer gaming and has built-in features such as chat, friends list, and achievements, making it a comprehensive gaming hub. In terms of prices, Steam is known to offer great deals and discounts, especially during their seasonal sales. Additionally, they have a reward system that allows users to earn points by purchasing games, which can then be used to redeem discounts on future purchases. Many users have also reported using discount codes or vouchers to save even more money on their purchases. However, it's important to note that not all games may be eligible for these discounts. As for returns and refunds, Steam has a fairly lenient policy. Users can request a refund within 14 days of purchase, as long as the game has been played for less than two hours. However, there are some restrictions on refunding certain types of purchases, such as in-game purchases or games that have been permanently removed from a user's library. In terms of delivery, Steam is a digital platform, so there are no physical deliveries involved. Once a game is purchased, it can be downloaded and played instantly. As for customer service, Steam has a support system in place that allows users to submit a ticket for assistance. Many users have reported that their issues were resolved quickly and efficiently. However, there have been some complaints about long wait times for responses from customer support. Overall, Steam is a well-established and reliable platform for gamers, offering a vast selection of games and excellent deals on purchases. Their lenient refund policy and efficient customer service make it a top choice for many gamers.

Without a doubt the biggest gaming platform in the world. Unfortunately due to some weird deals with with other game platforms they lost a few major games releases in the past years, but the game developers are coming to understand that Steam is the best options and more and more are coming back to Steam again.

I like steam because they have an extensive catalogue of both new and old games. They also have a lot of games from independent studios and I enjoy those games particularly. Most of the people I know use Steam and so I use it to game with other people. There are always discounts for certain games and their seasonal sales are amazing! Customer service has been helpful whenever I needed it. Refund policy I believe is fair.
