Where Do You Buy Clothes?

Ask a Question

Where do you buy most of your clothes?

The last couple of years I've started looking in charity shops more and I'm on the lookout for a new coat there.

I mainly shop at Asad, Matalan and Primark. Shoes from new look as they do a wide fit and trainers online, usually sketchers. Fit flops, my special treat are from John Lewis. I also buy loose harem jumpsuits from eBay, they are very versatile and good value.

I look in charity shops but can never find anything. I also look on fb marketplace but again can never find anything for me.

My go to places for clothes are Asda and Tesco. I also go to Matalan, Primark and New Look. I don't buy clothes often, usually during the sales when I actually need something.

MrsCraig That's the thing with charity shops, you need to be looking in different ones quite often sometimes

SamGoodship I go in all the time. Can never find anything for me or my son. There is one where I can occasionally find toys for my son but I find the ones near us lack items for children.

MrsCraig Have you ever tried looking on vinted.co.uk/ ? You have to pay for shipping and 'Buyer protection' on top of the sellers' price so you'd need to price compare but plenty of people sell used (sometimes new/unwanted) clothes and other items on there. I hardly need to buy things, but there seems to be a lot of decent quality items and I think there can be more variety than fb marketplace - so you might be able to find something.

I don't think you need the app, just an account to buy something.

My sister has been using it for the past yr or 2 - mostly selling kids clothes, but she came across a decent pair of boots for herself and a pair of Next trainers for my niece once.

Oh, I think you can do a bit of haggling - like ebay, giving 'offers' as well and see if you can buy something a little cheaper.

hky I buy lots of 2nd hand stuff off fb marketplace. I've tried Vinted before, never again. I will stick to fb marketplace, I can always find something on there that is local to me.

MrsCraig Oh I see, what did you find really bad about Vinted?

Maybe it also depends on where you live, but I don't see much on fb marketplace local to me in general.

I thought Vinted would be gd for 2nd hand clothes especially smaller children.

hky in terms of buying, items were overpriced, postage was extortionate and items were not as described.

In terms of selling, people will make ridiculously low offers, like 75% off what you are asking (happened to me and a friend on a regular basis) and will ask you to pay the postage too!

Fb marketplace is brilliant where I live. Never had any issues on there.

I look in charity shops, Asda, Sainsburys, Tescos, Peacocks (don’t have Primark), Matalan. I did buy a proper winter coat online though from Cotton Traders but only because there was a less than half price deal at the time.

I like Bonmarche as the prices are fair and there are often sales or reductions.

Vinted is my go to at the moment - I sell some of my old items I no longer need, then look for a great deal from someone else, so I often spend what I've made if I don't withdraw it. (I don't usually sell clothes, often just odd bits and pieces that are allowed, I wear my clothes until they fall apart 🤣)

If they have multiple things I'd like, then it saves on postage, so I order from that one person.

I got a great bundle of things for my niece a few months ago. 6 clothing items, 2 plush toys and 4 books.

3 of the books and 1 of the plushes were brand new, worth over £30 just for those 4 items alone. The clothing items didn't look like they had been worn but didn't have the tags. Got everything including postage for just over £10.

I will buy from anywhere really (within reason) I’ll have a look in charity shops but I do find the men’s selection in most of them lacking, compared to the women’s

Charity shops and vinted. Got a beautiful wool and cashmere coat with faux fur collar and sleeve cuffs for £7 on vinted and an ankle length next 100% wool coat in a charity shop for s tenner. Its amazing the quality you can get for a great price when you shop 2nd hand.

Mainly from Boden, Phase Eight and M&S. I do think Boden are getting a bit pricey so I’ll most probably stick with M&S.
