Co-op Membership Benefits Are Changing From 24th January

I have really liked collecting my 2p cash back shopping at Co-op on their products. Today they have announced they are stopping it. Instead members prices across a range of products. I’m disappointed about this. I’ve got a year to spend what I have saved until now. Anyone else use it?

From 24 January, you’ll no longer earn rewards for purchasing Co-op products and services. Instead, as a valued member, you’ll always save more with exclusive Member Prices across Food, Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services, giving you savings on the things you need.^
Something that won't change is our commitment to supporting local communities. We'll continue to do this through our Community Partnership Fund, and a dedicated £4m in funding to support existing Local Community
Fund causes.
What does this mean for you?
From 24 January 2024, you’ll no longer earn 2p for every £1 spent on Co-op products and services. You’ve got £42.73 in your membership rewards balance, and can still spend or donate this until 31 December 2024.*"

Co-op prices are normally around 20% more than other supermarkets anyway, so the 2% cash back doesn't count for much
Co-op has gotten expensive, I stopped going there ages ago, use to be a decent supermarket
The change might be better but will see in time. Depends on the members prices. Just sounds like another loyalty card scheme like Clubcard.
JLouM It is. I have been a member for more than 10 years and only shop there for the £5 frozen food deal. Value for money. I sometimes buy 3-4 of the £5 deals. Their Coop chilled meal is also value for money for members. Last year I earned £28 in e-divi. I am very, very annoyed with the axing of the 2p reward per £1.
That's a shame. I never managed to accumulate much on my membership rewards but usually saved during the year so that I could buy something nice at Christmas.
Not a Co-op fan ,only buy from there if offer on..My baby sister used to work for the Brightside & Carbrook Co-op years ago for a few years,this covered one side of Sheffield & my eldest sister worked for Sheffield & Ecclesall Co-op which covered the other side of Sheffield..
I remember my hard working older sister getting a £10 Christmas Bonus off S & E Co-op where she had worked since leaving school & baby sister getting £90 in cash & £90 in vouchers for working a short time at B & C Co-op!
I couldn't believe the difference in bonuses between my sisters,luckily baby sister gave big sister her vouchers as big sister had just moved into her first flat.
Baby sister left the Co-op after a few years whereas big sister has worked for Co-op 43 years since leaving school!
I have a Co=Op just around the corner but rarely step in there and if I do I usually forget to use my card, have always found them quite expensive.
It's my nearest shop and does have some decent offers at times plus I can walk there which is a saving in itself by not using the car and consuming petrol. If you go in at the right time maybe around 7.30pm to 8pm you can get some big reductions and often you could combine those with the card offers like a long french baguette that was down to 22p is only 2p after the 20p bread reduction on the card. I think I've got 40p of cash on my a/c which I will use next time I'm in there. They have been reducing offers recently. My mother had a 20p weekly offer on milk and you also get 15p off milk for being a member but the week before those offers worked together but this week they didn't only the 20p came off. It might have been a blip or maybe they are now preventing combining offers.
At the end of the day they need to be careful, suddenly making themselves more expensive could lead to a large drop in footfall and damage them. They should only make small changes spread apart but it feels like they are reducing their value too quickly. People are very sensitive to price increases typically.
BonzoBanana As far as the milk offers go I seem to get them alternate weeks so once a fortnight.
comriegold There are lots of coops where I live in the general area but for some reason the Coop in Glastonbury seems a lot more expensive than the other Coops. I don't know why this is but definitely more expensive than my local Coop which is smaller too. However Coops have regional areas. My local Coop is a south west Coop, however on the same road at the very top there is a Southern Coop (where my coop card weekly discounts don't work) and in nearby Street there is a different Coop linked to a different area which is 15 miles from me. Maybe linked to the Bristol area of Coops.
BonzoBanana I live in Worthing and use my card there but when on holiday in Hampshire at a different co-op my card wasn’t valid. So yes they have different ones.
I rarely use the Coop. It's too expensive. Standard of fruit and vegetables is rubbish and have found the selection of veggie food to be rubbish
