Italian Province the First to Set up a Dog Poop DNA Database

In the News

Now there will be no escape from the threat of a fine if your pet leaves a mound of doggy do on the pavement in Bolzan in Italy

All dog owners will be compelled to enter their dogs DNA on a database

Any droppings will then be collected by street cleaners or other officials and sent for testing

If there is a match the owners will face a hefty fine

I can see that catching on here eventually, the idea seems to be a good deterrent

So to end up not being in the soup take a scoop to that poop

Jackscot This is what i was saying J, i suspect other countries including the UK will be watching the results of this new law and adopt it if successful

Its a shame they dont do the same with fly tippers, take the DNA off stuff that is dumped and see if it matches employees of suspected prolific dumping firms , but i suppose that is more complicated as the original owners DNA will be on the objects too

I've been saying for years that this should happen in the UK

TheChimp I agree TC, they do a similar thing with household rubbish, they rummage through it and if you haven't separated it correctly they ID it and fine you

Dog poop isn't just a nuisance its a health hazard , i class this more important than making the odd mistake with your rubbish bins

This is a brilliant idea. I used to have three dogs but they mainly used the garden as their toilet but I always picked it up if they went while we were out. I was out yesterday and the amount left is on the increase. Every street had some, it’s not right.
