Do We Take Too Many Photos of Our Children?

Other

When my sons were born there were no such things as digital cameras or mobile phones. Cameras with film which you took to a shop to be developed kept the amount of photos limited and mostly for holidays, birthdays and christmas.

Nowadays I see so many children with a camera constantly in their face, especially babies. I can understand it and would probably have done it myself if the tech had been available. However i often open my whatsapp to find 3 or 4 photos all practically the same have been sent to me. I end up deleting a few and keeping the one i like best.

If technology was as advanced as it is now our parents and grandparents would also take several photos.

It's great that we have the opportunity now to make several photos for free and print the best. With the film camera it wasn't possible to do it sadly hence not many photos from our childhood.

While it's lovely to see all the photos of my great nieces & nephews I agree with you about having too many photos & deleting the ones I don't want...

I do like to take & recive photos , I was always the person with the camera on nights out before mobile phones but I only kept the ones thar were decent not blurred.

janphoenix51 I must admit I do love the ease of the phone camera. When I am out and rather than writing something down you can snap it. But I do worry about very young children and any effect it may have on them seeing part of parents face as it's hidden behind a phone or camera.

Lynibis ...I snap prices & dates on products then I can enlarge on my phone & check properly.

The writing on packaging is soooo small that I have to do this & it works better than getting my glasses out...

Lynibis ...A real bug bearer of mine, the companies who print the packaging should print BIGGER WORDING & not in colours that blend with the background...!!!

As youngsters my siblings & I found my late Dad's Kodak camera & were jumping up & down on our parents bed taking photos of each other..

We had spoilt the photos already waiting to be developed our Dad told us angrily..

I agree to an extent however I feel getting photos when they’re younger is quite possibly better and easier. I know as I’ve gotten older I hate having my photo taken to the extent I don’t even have a photo with either my mum or dad

I always take photos of my kids but it's just for me to make up photo books for when they get older

I don’t think we take too many photos at all, in actual fact i have great regret about not taking many photos throughout my life. There are people who are no longer here that i’d love to have more photos of.

jms19 that sounds as if it is before modern tech. I too would love to have had more photos prior to the millennia but but I do wonder what goes through babies minds when their parents are constantly getting them to smile but they can't see their faces, only an oblong camera.

I don't think photos are a problem, posting them online is. We all know there are terrible people out there and we all know they monitor social media to learn about people and their children but people would still rather post photos for everyone to see just because they're cute

I only tend to take photos when we go on holiday and that's it, I certainly don't post them online, my sister in law posted over 100 pictures on Facebook after a trip they had to Iceland 🫤, I don't see the need for that..,

I love all the photos sent to me in messenger of my granddaughters. I don’t save them all but I enjoy receiving them.

I love taking pictures on my phone and like you I was always the one with the camera on nights out. Wish we had phone cameras when I was pregnant as I only have one picture of me carrying my son and that one was me sitting down. It’s so nice to look back on pictures of loved ones or even places we’ve visited. Only issue I have I don’t develop them and I really need to start doing something with them.
