Is this another case of us being wrapped up in cotton wool? Cereals like rice crispies and coco pops I get but porridge?

JLouM according to the news there's a new rule that certain foods can't be advertised pre 9pm. Certain porridge are amoung the ones that can't be shown before the watershed
Jerseydrew Oh I see thank you. I haven’t heard about this. It is only advertising though. Personally ads don’t work on me probably because I know a bit about advertising. Really make your own informed decisions about what and when you want to eat. Read the ingredients if you need to. It’s all still there on the shelf if you want it. Advertising is all about profit for the manufacture, not for our benefit as they like to make us think. My dad is retired but used to work for the industry.
JLouM exactly. If you're going to buy it you will do. If you're going to feed it to your kids you will do regardless
Personally I tend to eat all foods within reason and not take any notice of such claims. The real problem is manufactures who develop new versions of a food like they have done with porridge, the instant pots and not make it clear that these are not as healthy as the traditional version due to what they have added,
With all the bad things that's going on with the country the government focus on this absolute nonsense , how is porridge unhealthy????
I'm not surprised this is happening as you see so many instant porridge pots full of additives that aren't healthy at all. An apple is healthy but not if you inject liquid caramel into it and then coat it with an inch of chocolate. There should be a general sticker that goes on processed food like 'WARNING - PROCESSED FOOD - Please check ingredient list' or something like that.
I've not had porridge for years my mother would make it for us it was so thick the spoon would stand up in the bowl lol
this is obviously just aimed at the instant porridge pots which do contain quite a bit of sugar. Although thats why I like them and they are tasty and nice and quick to make. I shall continue to buy them even if they are not advertised to me.
I think they are having a go at porridge with additives like sugar , syrup and flavourings etc J
I buy natural oats with no additives , i think these are ok
My daughter buys a big bag of Porridge Oats & adds Honey & Cinnamon & Ginger to them, sometimes she changes & adds a few squares of good quality Dark Chocolate to her's..
In summer she might add Blueberries & Strawberries...
By doing her own Porridge, she knows what goes in & it's cheaper to do than buy fancy Porridge Oats..
It is the pots of porridge that you add water too that are high in sugar, especially the syrup versions. They can still advertise porridge, just not the pot ones high in sugar.
MrsCraig never eat them. Bag for the environment as its single use pots and expensive
Jerseydrew I don't eat them either, never have, been seen them in the shops. I don't eat porridge often, my dad has it most mornings but he makes his own.
There shouldn't be a ban of advertisements for any food as it should be up to the individual to take some responsibility on how much they eat. What a nanny state we are now living in.
RegularComper91 I agree. Also if you're on a budget you buy what you can afford and if you go to a food bank you can be fussy on what you take
I have porridge every day, and I like oats so simple syrup. I add cinnamon to it. I knew it had quite a bit of sugar, but I really like it, and will continue to eat. I should not really, as I am type two diabetic.
