Another Product Recalled over Moth Larvae!

In the News

Daylesford Organic's biscuit collection and crispbreads recalled due to presence of moth larvae

It's the second time in the past month that products have had to be recalled due to potential moth contamination, after Tesco took the same action over its Apple and Cranberry Stuffing Mix in December.

Daylesford says the products all batches of the products are unsafe to eat due to the presence of moth larvae, also known as the common clothes moth.

Another product recalled over moth larvae!

It's getting tricky to know what is safe to eat.....

Jerseydrew You are right it could be a sign that they are struggling to find food out in the big wide world so they enter factories in their search. Perhaps the factory uses something sweet in these biscuits that draws them in?

I also wonder how they know that they are present in the food... are their obvious wings & body parts to be seen?

Moths in the food industry

Moths can cause a lot of trouble in up to several different industries, and therefore they can of course also create problems in the food industry. Moths are typically seen as problems among breakfast producers and feed manufacturers for dog and cat food. However, they can also be a nuisance in chocolate factories, so it is not only the drier products that moths go into.

One of the reasons that moths in the food industry can cause problems with so many different types of food is that there are simply several different moths

Damage

The damage that moths cause in the food industry is mainly that they simply eat away at the raw material stock and lay eggs in the factory, which then turn into larvae that also take care of the food. An actual infestation of moths can lead to large, financial losses.
