Real Reason Energy Prices Are Still Ridiculously High

Ask a Question

Can anyone give the facts and justifications for the energy price hikes and whether they can still be justified to this day. Seems like enough time has passed to find alternatives and sort the issue, so I wonder if it's just profiteering at this point.

Even the centrica boss is embarrassed by his pay and thinks it is too high while customers are suffering extortionate prices

telmel Notice he didn't offer any back though. His embarrassment will be a great comfort to those struggling to pay bills. Wonder what he would have paid himself had it not been set by others. And why are others setting his pay so high, no human on earth needs that amount of money for a year.

Lynibis I suspect he is not embarrassed at al L , he is not taking any blame for his sky high pay, he just wants people to think he sympathises with their situations , in reality is is probably extremely happy with their profits and his grossly disgusting pay

Exactly, he is just paying lip service whilst also not actually doing anything about the “problem” he’s the boss ofc he could reduce his wage but won’t

We need to bear the cost until inflation comes down. Really not known what is happening

I don't know how they can justify anyone in the company getting a bonus when their customers are cannot afford to keep warm and eat hot food on a daily basis.

They are lacking embarrassment, compassion, shame and/or morals - what they are not lacking is enormous bank balances 💰💰

I think that the public should set the salaries and bonuses of these large company bosses!

tumblespots Centrica isn't government owned so we can't set salaries for them unfortunately but we certainly should be setting wages for many other people in the public sector who set their own wages and pensions unfairly and well beyond the private sector sometimes for similar roles.

BonzoBanana One thing I noticed this morning was that the price of petrol around here has actually gone down so it begs the question why has the price of heating oil just shot up? I thought the two were 'related'!

tumblespots Reminds me of when interest rates change at the Bank of England. The banks are very quick to change what they charge mortgage holders but not so quick at increasing interest rates for saving accounts. I feel many businesses are quick to change increases and slow to change decreases. It's different in supermarkets which are so competitive. Many supermarkets are resistant to being the first shop to increase prices as they know it will cause more people to change supermarkets so they can hold out a bit but of course they all have to change to maintain their margin.

I suspect selling petrol is a lot more competitive with more people willing to change where they shop than heating oil.

BonzoBanana We do look around when buying heating, Mr T keeps a regular eye on the prices on various sites and it is rising at the moment!

tumblespots To be honest I wasn't sure how it worked. I'm just on mains gas here and thought it might be some sort of contract.

BonzoBanana No, no contract. (I think calor gas/flogas have a contact but not oil) We are a member of a local buying group but they haven't given as good a price as another local company recently - you do have to keep 'em peeled!

Good question, especially when gas whole sale prices have fallen, yet we're still paying more, we are being completely ripped off and taken for mugs

Greed and profiteering. Nothing more nothing less.

I’d like to know why the prices are rising so much as well. Doesn’t seem right that we’re told that it’s operational costs due to world events yet these companies are making record profits.
