Storm Darragh
In the News
We are under the red warning weather alert. What about everyone else? What you planning on doing during the storm?
I hope everyone will be ok. It’s scary the weather we get now. Best to stay in and avoid going out
Think we are in yellow but not planning on going out overnight or even tomorrow unless essential. We still get the tail end of it usually.
Last storm I was on a ferry between isle of wight and Portsmouth everyday and that was well rather rough. Done the same trip today and not quite as choppy, thankfully I don't need to do it again for a while. Don't get sea sick but was not far off.
I don't intend to do anything over the next few days
ch7leach the ferries by me canceled ahead. Though we've people moaning about it. I'm glad the ferry cancel as it's better to be safe then sorry
Jerseydrew the ones I had did not. Kinda would have rather they did. Thankfully I'm on solid ground all weekend so shall see it pass
Events near me have been cancelled and some businesses have said they will be closed tomorrow. Hopefully there won't be too much damage for anybody. I'm hoping our Christmas decorations stay put and we don't have anything damaged.
It's rather sheltered where I live. Rather wet and windy but nothing compared to rest of the country we on yellow warning
Red alert where I am. Buses have cancelled all services tomorrow. Some shops aka Marks have said they will be shut until midday and then decide from there whether they’ll open or not. I’m not leaving the house and hopefully the house won’t have any damage either.
we are in the red alert area - but my plans were to stay in anyway. Hopefully it wont be too bad...
I feel sorry for the poor delivery guy bringing my shopping tomorrow. I order days ahead and just add as I think of more things. But I will be staying in as I started a huge jigsaw yesterday, 2000 pieces!
Hopefully storm Darragh won't hit Sheffield too much..
I'm off this weekend as partner, daughter & I are going for our 3 Course Christmas meal with some of my partner 's family, he's one of twelve ranging from.him.at 63 to his sister in Northern Ireland at 81, all alive & kicking too!
The ones that live locally are going out & not in Northern Ireland!!
Stay safe everyone..xx
janphoenix51 wow 1 of 12 that's amazing. Clearly there was no tv when your hubby's parents had their kids. Seriously that's awesome. I hope you get to enjoy your lunch
Jerseydrew ..First child a War Baby,Second child was first husband 's child,he was Gloria Hunnyford's cousin & died tragically, rest of children are her second husband's ..
Partner's family are from Portadown, Northern Ireland, home town of Gloria.
Partner's Mammy also lost 3 children....
People ask if my partner is CATHOLIC I tell them no but I am!
I have 4 siblings after 1 passed away almost 9 years ago ..
janphoenix51 wow! I love stuff like this. Love the connections people have. Things like family trees are fascinating
Jerseydrew ...Thank you...
Lunch...Nooo it's a 3 Course Christmas Meal with my partner 's family who live in Sheffield & nearby Barnsley..
I hope everyone is OK this morning. So far where I am we are fine but it's due to hit this afternoon
Jerseydrew Update from SW Wales....
Rain has eased, but it's still windy af. No real damage for us so far except for a dodgy gate blowing over. More importantly, our Sky hasn't gone off
Here in Sussex it’s very blustery now but not raining. Nothing but trees blowing about though. It’s strong on my windows. That’s about it.
JLouM it's like a normal winters day atm where I am but it's easy to change here
Got the alert to my phone last night , some people criticizing this but personally I think it's a good idea. So far so good where I live, lots of heavy rain and strong winds overnight but no major flooding or damage in my immediate area. Many Christmas events have been cancelled , as has public transport , that's due to recommence around 11.00am today. Winds are not so strong now and rain reasonably light lets see what the rest of the day holds.
Mango4 I'd rather be over cautious then have people die or injured when there's no need. We had my place of work flooded 2 years that was awful. The trauma is still there for those affected by it
Red alert here the sound of the wind kept me up all night lots of trees have fallen. Buses have been cancelled here too.
No warning where I live. We have high winds and rain at the moment, but nothing really serious, thank goodness.
Very windy our side my garden state is like someone playing with things I have chickens they still in there house did feed them while flying me in the garden in the shed while putting there food shed door slammed by one side hit a bin that broken now ,then I quickly shut the door I did turn on heater since morning for them also we have Pigeons in there aswell also had appointment earlier went on Taxi didn’t drove my car today & just ordered groceries online will be delivered later also Churchill Home insurance sent email keep garden things away from windows and doors they might break glass so much going on heavy rain here hopefully all settled soon take care all thanks for this topic
I had too nip out for a few things, it was horrible, never again lol I couldn't catch my breath it was that windy
I had to go to the shop and it was horrible, the rain was freezing cold as well. To add to that as well it’s destroyed a couple of my fence panels in the back garden
Bit mad in London. It opened a couple of my windows and stuck a leaf in my post box !The cat went out for about 3 mins , did a 360 degree turn and run back into her basket.
Lost 2 fence panels and a wooden gate so far.... still 60mph here forecast says easing off by 2pm tomorrow
We were stuck on a road for a while because a tree fell down in front of a few cars before us, very lucky it didn't land on anyone other than that things are okay, my husband is still outside building our workshop
We've trees down near me. Some roads are shut cos of it. One of our sports centres is shut cos the roof is coming off again. Another building has it's roof coming off and it's a new build
Lots of damage in this part of SW Wales. Still no power in surrounding areas.
Looks like we might have gotten away with it. A few panes have gone in the greenhouse and that's about it. Oh, and the electric went off for ONE second resetting the Sky
Hope you're all safe and well
Will be going out shopping and walks, as per normal. Will be in my dry robe so trying to stay dry
Having to go to work today (care home) feel uncomfortable getting the bus so will walk the mile there and mile back, my garden is appalling at the moment everything that wasn't nailed down is strewn all over the place going to have to replace at least six fence panels...roll on spring please.
I was off Saturday & Sunday as we were out Saturday night with partner's family who live locally having a 3 course Christmas meal so I took Sunday off too..
Apart from going out for the meal,I never went out Saturday..
On Sunday I went out twice, once to put recycling in our bin & the other time to take the Bengal kitten home to our neighbours who live 2 doors to the road. Our neighbours are in poor health so I just let their kitten come in our home out of the horrible weather, rang them up telling the lady that I had her kitten & would bring it round in our cat carrier . The owner was grateful because she suffers Virtigo & her husband is ill..
I have so much work to do in the garden this year repairing/erecting fences and other bits and pieces now. Admittedly I erected the fence with my brother when I first moved in so its had 18 years so pretty old. I need to be much more productive this year in getting these jobs done.
