Do You Think Its worth Buying a Costco Membership?

Ask a Question

Do you think it’s worth buying a Costco membership? I live about 100/120 miles round trip from one. I see people talking about it but what kind of things do you get and is it really cheaper than other places?

My Cosco Is 15 miles from me and Its free with my company. I dont have the membership or want It. They sell almost anything as far as I can tell. Yours Is a ridiculous mileage. Is It or will It be worth It? They do online shopping as well. Maybe Its best to check the website out and compare.

Emerge11 thank you, I will check out online. I think if I was getting it for free, what do you have to lose? I’d try to tie it in with something else if I was visiting but if it’s not good purchases, I’d be annoyed at buying it. Many thanks

I have a Costco membership but I’m only 18 miles round trip for me, and I often pick up a few bargains, my last purchase was a TV and it came with a five year warranty, and delivered to my door as I ordered on line, I’ve just ordered a celebration cake to pick up on Monday, I also fill up my car with petrol as it’s cheaper to fill my car up there,

tara73ziva thank you very much. I’m guessing it is worth it for the big purchases. I did hear the cakes were delicious. Thank you ❤️ enjoy Monday celebrations.

tara73ziva that does sound very tempting. Being able to freeze things is a great benefit of bulk buying.

I’ve always debated whether to buy one but I’m never sure what to do

xKJG93 that’s exactly the position I’m in. It’s a little bit further away but it could be worth the trip every few months.

leeanngor I think that’s similar to me tbh, I don’t drive so would have to use public transport but could be worth it, just always unsure as to what to do

Not a decision I need to make as the nearest is Bristol I think and I would have to spend so much in petrol and time to get there and back.

BonzoBanana unfortunately I don’t know how far Bristol is from you. But for me I’m on the cusp. Could it be worth it every few months if I can tie in the trip.

My partner & I were members of Costco in Sheffield which is 2.9 miles from us but I don't know if we still are as we hardly go..

Costco petrol is cheaper, I went with my friend a few times years ago & let her fill her car using my card as her partner's had just expired..

You can get a cheap food in their on site Cafe, nothing fancy ...

janphoenix51 sounds like it’s not quite worth it if you’re only a few miles away. My husband and I both have electric cars, the advantage of cheap petrol isn’t there for us. That being said it would have used a lot of the savings getting there. Thank you for sharing your experience.

leeanngor ...You are more than welcome..

I hear the Meat is absolutely beautiful, an ex colleague used to stock up for her daughter & herself monthly when she went to Costco .

I think if you are planning to travel that far to go, I'd be wanting to fill a whole van with stuff

Jinky67 🤣 that would definitely contribute to additional expense. Did I mention that our one is beside Ikea. Perhaps the van would come in useful. 🤔

Costco quite a way from me and in an akward spot.More importantly,I do not drive and there are some great low cost shops and markets near where I live so hardly seems worthwhile.

MelissaLee1 thank you for sharing your experience. I do drive, this part isn’t an issue. I’m thinking the online membership would be a better idea.

If you live that far away from Costco there would be no benefit buying membership , you could buy an online membership for £15 thou and have items delivered, but you would need to work out if this beneficial to you.

Mango4 I was just saying below. I didn’t know that you could get online membership. That is a great idea, thank you for letting me know.

You would be better getting an online membership and getting items delivered. We used to live a few miles from Costco but the only benefit for us was the cheaper petrol and even then it wasn't really worth it.

I looked round with a member years ago and I didn't think it was for me although that was long time ago.

leeanngor I might take a look at the online membership myself buy bulky items

It only worth it if you can get a lot of things each trip. We don’t have a car so it’s not viable to shop there only to get a few bags of things

hspexy that would not make sense for you, I understand. I have a car, that part isn’t an issue. I’m thinking the online membership seems like a good option.

I thought you had to be a business person to become a member. I went with my sister last year and was shocked at how dear it was. All the stuff I would buy I can get around same price on various offers, I certainly wouldn't drive over a hundred miles with cost of fuel.

Lynibis I can get membership that part isn’t a problem. I guess it depends on when you go. The times I have seen them, the car park has always been busy but you’re right the distance is what was putting me on the fence.

leeanngor I just realised I made a typo (predictive text) in my comment. It was meant to read dear not dead! Sorry about that. I remember working out some prices of bulk pack doughnuts and per item they were cheaper in any supermarket.

Lynibis that predicted text 🤣 it makes such a difference to the comment. I had heard that you did really have to watch what you bought and some things were really expensive but others cheaper. Many thanks ☺️

My family goes to Costco once a week haha 😆 it’s cost at certain times they have a lot of reduced prices on fruits 🍎

It depends if you have a big family and use a lot of loo rolls lol or like to bulk buy toiletry items or foods

If you become a member you get a certain % of money back and each time you shop it then becomes a voucher with them you can use the next time you shop, though you have to reach a certain amount to get to the voucher

Have a look on their website for more details

Each member can take two guests with them and there’s always so many people

kitty88uk I didn’t realise you got a percentage back too. I have my own holiday let so toilet rolls would come at an advantage for sure.

Many thanks

leeanngor I’m not sure if you instantly get it or have to be a special type of member, be sure to look it up in full detail. Yeah they have a lot of offers with loo rolls now and again so good to stock up

Never had Costco membership, but I would like to ask those who have/had, do the prices online and in-store are the same or vary, as I was considering online only membership

The Costco is too far travel for me. My brother uses Costco and reckons it’s saved him lots just using the petrol station.
