How Do You Waste Money?
Other
The main way I waste money is takeaways which I have occasionally. I struggle to think of other ways I waste money. I always look for value in my purchases normally and don't buy premium branded items with huge markups. The only time I really waste money is takeaways. What about you? I don't subscribe to services I don't use or infrequently use. I'm on a low spec broadband package, my mobile contract is less than £2 a month (RWG). I never pay interest on credit cards etc. However I do really enjoy a takeaway occasionally although recently I've been making use of Tesco Woosh instead which has worked out quite well. However that is still wasteful if I bought the same items in a normal Tesco I would have saved perhaps £5-6 when you factor in the delivery charge and slightly raised prices.
Trying to eat healthy I have found I waste more food compared to barely any waste previously.
Lynibis That makes sense they will spoil quicker. Occasionally I have bought organic food when reduced and forgotten about it and a couple of days later its only fit for the bin. If I buy reduced organic food now I try to use it the same day.
BonzoBanana and also I don't find them so appealing when I have the munchies, would sometimes sooner go without. This or this lol.
Lynibis try to freeze as much as you can. You will be surprised at the amount of fresh food that you can freeze.
suevernon1968 yes of course I freeze food when I can and do lots of batch cooking. But I am talking about food along the lines of salads which can't be frozen.
Takeaways or I do like to have a bet on the football or goes on the lottery and Irish lottery
xKJG93 I don't regularly gamble, only very occasionally but I guess I am wasteful for having premium bonds as I haven't won much to say the least and the money would probably be better off in a high interest account. Last won in May about £100 I think but before that I can't remember when I won, at least 5 years possibly more.
Eating a lot healthier, haven't bought a takeaway for ages, too expensive for the crap they give out, prices of takeaways has doubled since COVID, if I waste money it's on clothing, I see an offer I cannot resist I buy it, even if I don't need it lol
Having a sporty husband who buys expensive bikes and running shoes (10 pairs this year) but we can afford them.
Wouldn’t technically call it wasting for me personally but spend a lot on my kids with toys, clothes, games etc
Definitely takeaways but we do try to make them a little cheaper by walking to pick then up to avoid delivery costs, buying just eat giftcards to get a percentage back through top cashback and then paying with the giftcard. Comparing prices and saving anything we don't eat for the next day. I also download free just eat cards from points apps when I can for a treat xx
DanielleMcK1992 I do look for codes and even setup new accounts to use first use codes etc but often I just give in and pay full price. I use foodhub and don't think they are on cashback sites but the same takeaways cost more on other food sites.
BonzoBanana when you set up new accounts does it not register your address? I haven't heard of foodhub, I'll take a look at it thank you
We are pretty good at not wasting money. We will have the occasional takeaway, eat out a few times a year and occasionally go for coffee. These are factored into our monthly budget though. We could definitely save money by not buying our son toys so often, but we don't see that as a waste and I would rather cut out something else to pay for them.
By buying stuff I think I need when infact i actually don’t need it I now put things in my basket and leave them for 2 days….if I keep thinking about it or keep going back to my basket after the 2 days I buy it
I must admit to having a fair few magazine I have bought to read - and ten never got round to actually reading properly, especially he last one I have delivered. I will one day...
didbygraham Many years ago I used to be buying magazines all the time, cycling, gaming, computing etc in fact that is one of the main thing I'm clearing out on ebay and have sold over a 1000 old magazines so far I think and still have a huge amount to go. Nowadays I just look online for pdf magazines to read and put them on my tablet.
The other thing that came to mind after my last comment. I expect it is the same for most single people. I like condiments: mustard, horseradish, pesto, bbq sauce, mango chutney etc etc. But I can never finish them before the expiry date (I do allow extra time) and sometimes end up discarding jars still half full!
Lynibis My tastes are simpler than yours I feel as I really only have ketchup in the house apart from salt, pepper, vinegar plus various powders like curry powder, chilli powder, paprika etc. In fact I've recently finished my ketchup and not replaced it yet. If I'm having baked beans I tend to add a bit of curry powder or paprika to it just ot make it more interesting except for beans on toast where it has to be the original beans flavour.
BonzoBanana I once heard a tv chef say that spices in powder form last ages, way past bbe date, they just lose their potency. I make my own Marie rose (seafood) sauce which needs yoghurt, worcester, ketchup, mayonnaise, horseradish and lemon juice. I always freeze lemons if I can't use them while fresh.
Turmeric is meant to be good for you, I have started to put a sprinkle on my food here and there, when I remember!
Going to the Christmas market.. so expensive just a drink is great this time of year but jeeze you’ll freeze and pay for it let alone eat pick n mix
