WIN a HobSensus System and Make Your Kitchen Safer

HobSensus is a cooking safety device that reduces the risk of fire. It turns the power to the hob off if the person preparing food is distracted and leaves the kitchen unattended.

There are two ways that HobSensus keeps kitchens safe: There is a timer that ensures the hob is switched off after the pre-set time elapses. There is also a sensor that divides the cooking surface into 64 zones. It ‘watches’ the hob and detects when the temperature in any zone is approaching a dangerous level. Audible and visual warning signals are given, and if no action is taken, power to the hob is cut – making the kitchen safe.

A press of the red button starts a timer and activates the sensor. The hob is then used in the normal way.

HobSensus is ideal for use in homes of multiple occupancy (HMOs), Assisted living accommodation, kitchens used by vulnerable people, holiday lets, Airbnbs, and rented houses.

The system comprises two devices, the Sensor Head – positioned centrally above the hob, and a Power Switching Unit – installed between the hob and the isolator switch. A low voltage wire connects the two devices providing power and communications. If this is not practical because of splashbacks, 4AA batteries can provide power. When batteries are used, the sensor and switcher ‘talk’ to each other via Bluetooth.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, HobSensus is robust and tamper-proof and complies with the European Safety Standard EN50615.

HobSensus was announced the Safety Innovation Award winner by Electrical Safety First in 2023. This campaigning organisation is recognised by government and industry as the leading authority on electrical safety in the UK.
