Commuter and business rail travel in the United Kingdom Entered a new phase at the beginning of the 21st century as Hitachi?s sleek Class 395 entered service on the High Speed I service between the Kent coast and London. Inspired by the design of the Japanese ?Bullet Trains?, this new generation of high speed trains operate over a rail system where track and signalling design allows for operation speeds of up to 140mph (225 km/h) and has led to the introduction of similarly styled trains on the West Country, East Coast and cross-Pennine routes. The ongoing development of high speed rail routes will continue with the building of High Speed 2, creating shorter journey times between London and the Midlands, eventually extending those benefits to the city conurbations of the North.

This specially prepared three vehicle model features working lighting that operates according to the direction of travel, while the track circuit included in this set can be extended to fully complete the included 1600mm x 1180mm TrackMat, building an exciting and fully functioning high speed model railway.
