Apple Watch Series 5 brings some new innovations to ensure it's always ready to use when you need it. The retina display is now always-on, so you don't need a flick of the wrist to activate the screen and see your notifications. Even with the always-on screen, Apple have cleverly kept the battery life at up to 18 hours, enough to safely see you through the day. It also now sports a built-in compass, perfect for runners, hikers and walkers.
Workout detection
Apple Watch can tell when you’ve started a work out – it’ll alert you to fire up the Workout app. Handily, the Watch will credit you for the exercise you’ve already, so there’s no hard done by feelings.
Dive in
The Apple Watch Series 5 is water resistant to 50 metres, so there’s no need to remove it when you’re swimming.
Live a healthier life
The Series 5 monitors your heart rate throughout the day, so you can quickly and easily keep track. If the watch detects any unusually high or low heart rates, it will alert you — even when you don’t feel symptoms.
Tap and pay
Just hold the Apple Watch Series 5 to the checkout reader to make payments via your credit or debit card. No matter how you use it, Apple Pay keeps your financial information completely private and secure.
Great GPS
The handy, built-in GPS measures your workout accurately, so whether you're going for a swim, run or a ride, you can leave your iPhone at home. Distance, speed and pace are all precisely recorded for you, ready for when you get back home to review your route on your iPhone. Additionally, your Apple Watch Series 5 comes with a barometric altimeter, so your new wrist-based coach can keep count of the amount of hills you’ve climbed and descended.
Super cellular
You can still stay in the loop, even when you’re away from your iPhone, thanks to your Apple Watch Series 5’s cellular feature. With the Apple Watch Series 5, you can make calls or send text directly from your wrist. (Please note: a cellular service is required for this feature to operate.)
What’s the difference between GPS and GPS + Cellular?
GPS
The Apple Watch Series 5 GPS lets you send and receive text messages, answer telephone calls and receive notifications when it’s connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The built-in GPS works independently of your iPhone for distance, pace and route mapping in workouts.
GPS + Cellular
The Apple Watch Series 5 GPS + Cellular has all the same great features as the above, as well as built-in cellular. It gives you the freedom to send and receive text messages, answer phone calls and even receive notifications when you don’t have your iPhone with you.
Cellular Carrier Support
Connecting your Apple Watch Series 5 GPS + Cellular to a cellular network requires the same carrier as your iPhone.
Additional information: manufacturers often update their Operating System (OS) software over the course of a device’s lifespan – this means that your product might ship with a more advanced OS than specified.
