3 Course Christmas Dinner??
Ask a Question
Do you do a 3 course Christmas lunch/dinner?
Last year I decided just to do the main, and put out mince pies and other snacky bits for after.
I think 3 courses is a bit much…
Leannexxx I think that 3 courses is way too much. You end up half full before you start your dinner. Who can eat desert straight after two courses
PayItForward well I could easily do it lol but I couldn't be bothered doing a 3 course meal I wanna spend time with my kids trying out there new stuff
Leannexxx Awh that’s fair enough. It’s nice to get time with your kiddies playing with their new gifts
Back in the day we used to have 7 courses, but that soon went by the wayside.
Now it's 2 courses on Christmas Day and 3 on Boxing Day.
blacklabrador 7! Oh my goodness. I would be fit to burst lol. My husband could probably do 7 lol
PayItForward Most of them were really small courses, but in the end it just got a bit silly.
I think a 3,4 or even 5 course is fine , But only the main course (and perhaps the starter ) at the table . The desert , cheese board, nibbles etc can be had in the fullness of time whilst more comfortably seated and the meal is nicely digested .
intherealworld I think if you are doing that many courses, small portions would be the way to go
PayItForward Obviously the last two courses (dessert , cheese , nibbles ) would be consumed at leisure probably hours later .
3 courses. A very light starter, then main. Rest and go back for dessert. We then have Turkey sandwiches and cheeseboard for supper.
JLouM I do love a cheeseboard! We normally have a board on Boxing Day with turkey left overs
I put crudités and dips out so the family can help themselves. Sometimes I’ll even have a plate of salami with parma ham too. It all gets eaten before lunch.
Pjran I love this idea. I think I will do this. that way those that are hungry can snack away, and those that aren’t can just wait for their main meal
PayItForward it’s just a simple thing to do, that’s me being lazy. All shop bought things.
Pjran but I like this as it’s simple, but so nice. Everyone would enjoy it too. Thank you. I’m going to add bits to my Christmas delivery for it
I rarely host Christmas dinner anymore as my sons can't have a drink if they drive to me. I love the idea of 3 courses, but no one seems to manage them so it's usually main with all the trimmings and even then a break is needed before dessert. We all eat far too much at Christmas so personally I don't see the need for more than two courses.
Lynibis yes. I feel that for two weeks you just stuff your face because it’s Christmas
We just have a Christmas dinner and then just have chocolate etc later of the night or if get hungry do turkey, stuffing and gravy cobs/baguettes
xKJG93 oh I love leftover turkey and ham sandwiches. Even better as toasties with cranberry
We do do the 3 courses but it’s usually staggered over the whole afternoon. Starter & main together then wait 3 or 4 hours and have dessert
Yes I do but we don't have a quick lunch. Starter is more lunch, main is about 2.30/3pm. Dessert is like 4pm
Jerseydrew that sounds perfect actually. Although we can’t do that as my husbands family like their main at 1pm
PayItForward yeah it's more of a European way of Xmas lunch. My mums family are French so we have always gone with how my gran did things. My dad's side is more rushed
We do a main course and a pudding. There are left overs and snacks for later if anyone is still hungry. My mum used to do a 3 course meal but we would space them out so you didn't feel so full.
Always three courses for us, normally a small starter of something like Prawn cocktail or stuffed mushrooms , followed by the main course and then usually Christmas pudding, which never real goes does well, I have asked for a different pudding this year, but don't think I will get one.
Just a main meal for me as I really can't eat much these days. I always do loads of different vegetables though, sprouts, cauli-cheese, leeks, parsnips, carrots and cabbage, roast & mashed potatoes, and I will use the leftover veg to make bubble & squeak rounds (bit like hash browns). It makes loads of them, so I freeze most of them so they can be taken out individually, and we have cold cuts with bubble & squeak & homemade pickles for Boxing Day
I always provide a three course meal but it’s very rare that anyone wants a dessert straight after having a starter and mains.
We just have the traditional Yorkshire dinner, Yorkshire puddings with gravy first, then our main dinner then finger snacks later on
martinlufc5637 ....Wot no puddin, there would be world war three in my part of God's Own County if there wasn't a lovely puddin, usually a Chocolate one or my daughter 's beautiful Baileys Cheesecake.
We have our YORKSHIRE pudding with our main meal..
This Christmas Day I'm on shift at one end of Sheffield....While my partner is on shift at the other end of Sheffield supporting our service users & making sure they have a nice Christmas...
Our daughter is home alone with our two cats, we are treating her to a nice M & S meal ,she will be planning & preparing for our Christmas on Boxing Day when we will celebrate Christmas together as a family...
The following day we will join my partner's brother & are booked at Ego Mediterranean Restaurant for a three course Christmas meal,we always treat ourselves to a Christmas meal & as partner's brother won't be joining us Boxing Day we have invited him...
Our cats will be enjoying a nice meal too!
martinlufc5637 oh I do love a Yorkshire pudding! I make them for our Christmas dinner too!
I was actually contemplating cutting the courses down this year. My mum, dad and mother in law are coming to us and neither of them are big eaters at all
Sammycb I think it’s more work too. The best part is the turkey dinner, so I put all my effort into it
I don't think I've ever had a 3 course meal at home or my growing up at my mother's house. 2 course is the maximum, main meal and dessert. Never had a starter at home. However I've had occasional 3 course meals at restaurants. Christmas day is typically minor snacking then one main meal and sometimes the dessert hours later as the evening meal of sorts or sometimes we don't even bother with christmas pudding until the next day. However in the last few years we have had a steak meal as the Christmas day meal and a roast on boxing day.
We start in the morning with a light breakfast then Starter for Lunch then the Main Course for Dinner and Pudding early evening, usually a blow out!
tonygch96 I have all my in laws coming, so we couldn’t do this - but it sounds ideal. Maybe if we have Christmas on our own we will do this
Must have a well stocked cheese board and strong coffee after dinner and pudding .So yes three courses at least.I am so greedy at Christmas. It is the festive season after all.
MelissaLee1 exactly. Stuff your face season. I’ve already been eating mince pies. I love them
We have the big main. I also make a cheesecake but we usually have it with the nibbles later on. 3 courses is too much for us x
I do a 3 course dinner I start with prawn cocktail or soup for those who don’t like prawns then I have dinner with all the veg and turkey, beef and pork then there’s a choice of Christmas pudding, homemade rice pudding, or cheesecake
