DISCIPLINE, the Dirtiest Word of the 21st Century.

As parents do you have boundaries for your kids? Do you allow them to talk back to you, give them everything they want without anything in return like small chores and good behaviour. Basically do you let them walk all over you?
There is none - this is why this happens in UK and in Glasgow it happens every weekend fri-sun

My boyfriend says its normal as he has lived here all his life, he says to most Glaswegians this is a laugh and a chance for some entertainment - but for me coming from a country where we never see this it is very frightening to me?
Is it just me that finds all the violence in the Uk scary and abnormal?
Hi, I did reply to this earlier but it has disappeared. I never write anything that could cause offence and if it had been taken down i would think that I would have received a notification. This has happened a few times and makes me think I am going mad!
Basically I said I also find it scary and abnormal, as most right minded people would. Violence should never be normal but with cuts in police numbers and so many 'minor' crimes not being investigated, criminals think they can get away with ever worsening crime. The media does not help either. I can see a time when it won't be safe to go outside.
I think setting clear boundaries is necessary for all children. You can discipline your children effectively without any physical discipline but some people seem to think the two things have to go together and they don't.
Clear rules in a household mean your children grow up knowing right from wrong & respecting you and in turn know how to be a productive member of their school & then society.
Unfortunately society has changed and some people know what they can get away with in regards to the law and will not follow the right path but hopefully if you raise your children with good examples and give them a good moral compass they will be ok and avoid making friends with people like that.
We as parents should do our very best to guide our children down the right path but once they are adults it is then their responsibility to behave appropriately.
So agree with you Sandy. I have commented elsewhere about a video on YouTube called Children See, Children Do, and it really hits home. Yes, a lot of people see the word discipline as harsh and cruel but it need only mean consequences like loss of pocket money, a day without video games, a week of washing up etc. dependent on the 'crime'.
