Paying for a Place in College/university

So a scandal has been reported https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47577506 but as far as I was aware, the ‘elite’ and wealthy have always been privileged and are easily able to pay their way to success, and so they have done so since the dawn of time

And will these universities or colleges stop accepting such ’bribes’? I doubt it
