Those £1 stores had the priced hiked up to way more than that, so, good riddance. The only ones who are truly affected by this are the employees that got the boot.
Britain streets cleaning itself up from stores that weren't selling anything, or hardly. It looks like the country is in a phase of being reshaped and that is all around great.
Yes, people are losing their jobs but at the same time this gives opportunity for more profitable (w/affordable prices) businesses to take place. UK needs to stop trying imitate US and be its own thing, like it used to.
Just take a look at other countries, they don't have £1-type stores but work fine without it as their prices are competitive. Plus, you have the online Chinese Aliexpress retailer with free worldwide delivery in case their prices are a tad pricey and you're willing to wait a few weeks.
