Travel Insurance Needs to Be Compulsory

Another sad sorry where travel insurance was not taken out. I believe people need to show proof of insurance before leaving the country along with their passport. What do you think?
Unfortunately lots of pensioners and disabled gamble that nothing health wise happens while on holidays because of the high premiums. You can’t cruise without insurance through.
Pjran I have been on many cruises and apart from just after Covid, all we ever have to do is tick a box to say we have insurance but you don’t have to prove it. All wrong, should be shown.
eyeballkerry when I’ve completed our pre boarding details it asks for insurance details.
Pjran Different companies different rules. We always travel with P&O cruises. Actually going on one on Thursday.

Some people take the gamble to save a couple of hundred quid, it's not something I'd do, anything can happen at anytime
martinlufc5637 Its like with anything that needs insurance. House, its contents, car. So many don’t bother and just hope nothing will happen.
eyeballkerry I see people saying it costs a lot of money for travel insurance, we pay £26 a month with Barclays, and covers 6 of us, plus we get VIP lounge at the airport , we go abroad twice a year so costs us £156 a trip, to me that's not expensive
Last Travel Insurance I took out was £12.62 for a 5 day trip to Iceland.
That's with 3 pre-existing health conditions as well.
There really is no excuse.
blacklabrador just because it was reasonable for you doesn’t mean the same applies to everyone. I mostly do get travel insurance but can understand when it’s costing hundreds, why people are put off.
jms19 Fair enough, but If you can't/won't get travel Insurance then don't expect others to foot the bill if things go wrong.
Sadly not enough people take responsibility for their own actions.
blacklabrador oh yeah I completely agree on that, if you know the risks and don’t get the travel insurance, you can’t be upset if something does happen and you get a large bill.
blacklabrador Exactly. Unfortunately it can be high but if you have so many illnesses should you really be travelling for your own safety.
blacklabrador You do need to shop around these days. I am with the bank at the moment and it suits my needs.
eyeballkerry Indeed, I always use a comparison tool, not necessarily going for the cheapest, but rather the best.
Jerseydrew I can not understand it. My mother paid over £400 when we went on a cruise. Better safe than sorry.
eyeballkerry some it maybe an error but for some they think because they have never needed it before it's a waste of money
eyeballkerry totally agree. The cost of things when on holiday and it goes wrong is crazy. At least insurance can sort it out
What are people thinking, not booking travel insurance it definitely should be a priority. As Martin Lewis say ASAB as soon as book.
LL81 I used to work in travel and as soon as someone had booked I was trying to sell them insurance. To be fair most people took it out back then.
I don't understand these people , travel insurance is risk based, so the more likely you are to require it due to pre existing illness or condition the more expensive. it is. A quote of £3000 should have been warning enough not to attempt this trip if they could not afford the necessary insurance as there was a very high risk of something going wrong.
Mango4 I read so many stories in the news about people having health issues abroad and not taking out insurance then the go fund me page is set up. It should be compulsory.
