Pesticides seep into food products and thats another worry

telmel I think most countries make some use of pesticides but it seems poorer countries won't risk losing crops like India, China etc as food production is so critical that they often don't use safe levels. So much is going on in food production around the world like gentically modified food too or use of drugs in cattle to reduce fat and increase meat etc. Then if you buy food from distant countries they add chemicals to extend the lifespan like chemicals added to the surface of grapes, apples etc so they don't spoil when transported. So many chemicals and drugs in food production.

BonzoBanana Lets hope the tomatoes have been spared too much pesticide use B , and the company are made to start using tomatoes from Italy, considering the abundance and quality they have homegrown there , surely they are cheaper than importing from China ?

telmel China keeps their currency artificially low and of course they get paid less in China typically. Italy is the same as us things are cheaper from China. Some people in rural China are paid less in a year than we get in a month but of course things are much cheaper in China so that money goes further.

I saw a video about someone working in a Chinese factory and although officially were meant to work 44 hours actually worked another 16hrs per week unpaid to keep their job basically. They got paid $400 US dollars a month and that was considered a high wage. However their rent was $320 US dollars but could move to somewhere where it was $200 per month and much nicer but it meant a long commute and maybe $60 in transport costs. They had recently had their ebike taken by the police (which was why I was watching the video) so would rely on public transport etc hence $60. He sounded incredibly exploited and the police seem like an absolute nightmare. There are huge financial issues in China and the housing sector is in a state of collapse so I'm surprised rent is so high as so many areas have empty housing but I guess like the UK it depends on where you want to live. If you want to live where the jobs are or the high wages are those typically have higher housing costs.

Everything seems to be made in China nowadays but the Chinese people don't really seem to be benefitting from it and the Chinese government seems to have huge financial issues. I guess there are also problems when having a undervalued currency as you get less for your goods and it has very low spending powers abroad.

China are starting to ban food imports from the US due to the tariff situation so its likely China will be exporting less food in future.

MelissaLee1 It's garbage food wherever it comes from to be honest, tinning food like this destroys most of the nutrients typically. Fresh tomatoes is what you want to use not extremely highly processed tinned foods plus you have to think of all the extra processing and packaging required for tinned food. I know there is one chemical in tomatoes that can increase with being cooked that is healthy but most of the other nutrients will be lost or reduced. Also now we know they are hiding low quality Chinese tomatoes in there that adds even more health issues to the product. So much cancer about nowadays and much of it is linked to the processed food we eat.

When fresh tomatoes are getting a bit long in the tooth but I'm not going to use them I just liquidise them and then freeze them in a small container for sauces later. Take one out a day before using and stick it in the fridge and its fine for sauces and still has a high number of nutrients and freezing is the safest presevative as it requires no chemicals. I can't remember the last time I bought tinned tomatoes.
