Help - Why Do Accounts Get Suspended (Banned)?
Ask a Question
Hello,
In this article, we hope to share why accounts may get banned or suspended.
Firstly, if you think you have been banned for the wrong reason, we apologise. Sometimes we do make mistakes.
Is Your Account Restricted or Banned?
- Restricted accounts still have profiles, can login and browse the website. However, you may not be able to comment, post, report, like, or have other features removed. Please read: Help - Why Do I have a Posting Limit?
- Banned accounts no longer have access to their profile. They are not able to login, view saved posts, comment, like or use any features on the site.
Why Do Accounts Get Suspended or Banned?
Breaking Guidelines
The most common reason is for breaking our Guidelines.
Please read these Guidelines in full. If your account has been found to break our Guidelines it may be suspended, restricted or banned.
Company or Business Self-Promoting
If you are a company or individual self-promoting your own products, or an organisation you are affiliated with, this is against our rules.
Latest Deals is happy to work with companies in an official capacity, so please contact us.
Duplicate Accounts
Having multiple accounts on Latest Deals is not allowed.
Bad Quality Posts, Comments etc.
If your posts or comments etc., is found to be consistently bad quality your account may be restricted, suspended or banned.
Points Manipulation
We introduced Points in February 2017 to give back to members. This is the backbone of the Latest Deals community, and we are still the only deal hunting site to give vouchers to all contributors.
Latest Deals is built on the hard work of dedicated members. People who spend hundreds of hours helping each other save money with valuable, genuine deals, freebies, discussions and competitions.
We see it only fair to hard-working contributors that the points system is upheld and bad actors are not able to abuse it.
We want to say thank you to people who make Latest Deals a brilliant and real community.
With this intent in mind, we may suspend accounts which seek to exploit our points system (for example, but not limited to):
- Members with multiple accounts
- Members writing duplicate comments
- Members taking actions for the sole purpose of getting points with the result of poor quality content.
- Members who cause consistent and unnecessary upset, angst and disruption against other members or ourselves.
You can read more in our guidelines.
We also suspend accounts for self-promotion, selling access to Latest Deals to companies and businesses, and other breaches of our Terms & Conditions.
What happens to accounts that get suspended?
- We do not send notice if an account is suspended.
- We do not give warning before an account is suspended.
- The member can contact us using the contact form.
- When an account is suspended (banned), the member is no longer able to login.
- They cannot post deals, comment or interact with the website.
- They cannot access points nor claim any previously unclaimed reward.
- If the member has been suspended solely for having multiple accounts, we may leave the first primary account active.
Your account may be banned for breaking any of our guidelines. We do not give warning before banning accounts.
I hope this note serves as an honest and transparent explanation for why accounts get suspended. Kelsey, Deepak and I love welcoming people into this community and want to keep it a great place for the vast majority of awesome contributors.
With best wishes,
Tom
Just echoing Tom in thanking all our awesome members
We have these rules to try and minimise the time we spend trying to catch sneaky people abusing the points system.
For any such sneaky people reading - please do remember Latest Deals isn't some massive faceless corporation. We're a small team that wants to give back to our incredible deal hunters. By trying to cheat the system you stop us focusing on the stuff that matters - finding deals and building crazy new money saving tools!
Plus, if you didn't know, the combined efforts of volunteer mentors and the LD system is basically Sherlock Holmes so if you're rocking multiple accounts or spamming the same comments everywhere we will catch on and you could end up losing all those lovely points!
There are loads of ways to earn more points on one account - sharing deals, freebies, competitions and vouchers. Writing helpful comments. Finding glitches. Plus, by being just generally awesome, you may find yourself with a healthy points bonus
Well said guys.. well said! Was totally getting tired of all the copy and paste replies in comments from the usual culprits! Like how hard is it to physically type out a genuine response or just a thanks!
They made it very obvious. I responded to one then realised there were three posters making the same comment about never winning anything. Maybe they got 10 points instead of 5.
Jaycee5 yeah totally agree. I was going to rant at them as it really grinded my gears but i dint wanna get banned from the site, i am not bothered if it just a general comment but post after post it was.
rochey2 if you see this again (multiple accounts posting the same comments) please contact us.
Tom sure will tom tbh i never thought about duplicate accounts but will keep an eye out now.
Brilliant I have noticed a few. Loving this site and is a shame when a few people try to be greedy.
keep at it, you are all amazing
I copy and paste my Good Luck + Thanks reply's on all my posts. Even past the max points for comments. I like to reply to all comments on my posts but work full time so do not really have the time to write out a new comment every time. If i get a particularly 'chatty' comment or one that varies from 'thnx' I will reply with a personal comment. Why is copy and paste an issue when your not getting any points anyway?
Great question lizzie95xx. LD can identify when it's normal behaviour, for example, saying "thanks" in competition comment thread or replying to people. Reviewing your comments, you're fine
I think what was meant by that was the copying and pasting of certain comments that made it clear it was from the same person using different accounts. An example that made me suspicious was this comment(not exact words but very near) ... 'Hoping I win this competition I have never won any competition before' Now maybe if 1 user was putting that on every post it might not be suspicious but when all of a sudden a number of new users are popping up and putting the same word for word on multiple posts it did make me wonder.
Hm, leaving their primary account is rather a good gesture (not sure they'd deserve though after doing the same action constantly) than outright ban permanently.
I haven't noticed any. Pressing the thanks button makes the same comments come up frequently. If you do notice any, it might be worth pointing them out to the moderators on their contact form particularly if more than one person is making the same copy and paste comment.
I didn't even realise that about the thanks button and when you click it a thanks comment comes up,have been typing my thanks all this time so will save me a few minutes each day :-)
Yes. I can see from Yesterdays posts that someone has put in the same comment multiple times
Yes, I've noticed that one a lot. It seems to just be one person and she has been a member for a long time so maybe if someone just responded and asked her not to do it she might stop.
I really do not see what the user is doing wrong, they are just using the same comment to thank the poster and do not seem to be doing it for any gain. It is 1 user and they do not appear to be using multiple accounts that they are posting the comment from. If you look a lot of users just put Thanks or even ta on a lot of posts are these also copying and pasting and so should be stopped ?How do you even know they are copying and pasting it anyway ? They could be typing it each time. Maybe just skip on by when you see it as it isn't really doing you or anyone else any harm but if it bothers you that much then click and report it and give your reasons why you are reporting it and then if the powers that be see a problem with it they will act,if you do that and nothing happens then I think it will be fair to assume that it is allowed.
Hello, bumping this thread as we've had a rise in people posting deals on behalf of companies recently. A reminder that anyone found doing this will be banned immediately without warning. This is a community website which relies on trust between members. Thank you.
If you suspect someone of self promotion, or posting on behalf of businesses, please let us know by contacting us. We give a generous bounty of points if any reports are found to be correct.
