GUIDES
A decent price for a decent little runaround bike.
Yes, you can buy cheaper bikes, but paying a little more for a bog standard runner would probably be a better option for durability and function.
There are a few issues with this bike. It doesn't have a replaceable gear hanger it is part of the frame so once you've come off a few times and had to bend the gear hanger back the gear hanger will be too weak and the frame will need replacement. It's fine to have a built in gear hanger for a steel frame but not so good for aluminium. The carbon forks are actually carbon fibre blades bonded to an aluminium steerer and the bonding can fail over time, in the past there has been a huge amount of recalls for this type of forks. The weight limits on Decathlon bikes are some of the lowest of any brand and lastly its a Microshift drivetrain so fairly cheap and basic. I've got a bike with the same drivetrain except its 7 speed and its ok but it doesn't compare to the quality of Shimano Claris which many sites recommend for touring bikes. If you are a heavy rider you would probably be better off with the Carrera Virtuoso and for a little bit more there is the Carrera Vanquish which has a full carbon fibre fork and is a stronger bike with a replaceable gear hanger etc. Both those bikes have mainly Shimano Claris.
