Well I was after some decent sowing compost but the prices from Amazon , EBay etc were prohibitive (£8 -£10 for 10 litres ! ) . so had to get off my backside and do my "essential " shop .
Well I'm impressed with this compost , nice and fine , 80% peat with vermiculite and horticultural sand and no twigs etc !.
I realise we shouldn't use peat based compost (to save the peat bogs ) but it is so much better for seeds than that chopped up doormat stuff you get .
I mix it with extra vermiculite to bulk it up and help water retention .
Thanks for sharing this. Good price. That’s 4 ordered and the tomato feed and phostrogen. Just need to find some cheap pot ash now for the tomatoes and I’m sorted
Golfforall be good for my plant seeds. I’m going to try and grow my own tomato plants from seed this year instead of buying the plants. I want to try some different types this year. So will be perfect for them too.
heatherduthie I do that every year , tomato seeds are dead easy and only take a few days to pop up . As well as the normal tomatoes I do the cherry ones and grow them 2 or 3 plants to a hanging basket . Tumbler , Red Cherry and Sugar Plum are good for that method (and of course it saves having to stake them and keep taking off the side shoots ).
Golfforall I have to grow mine in the greenhouse. It’s not warm enough here in the north east of Scotland to grow them outside in hanging baskets. I love yellow tomatoes so I have bought a few different types including the pineapple ones. I have also bought the rainbow ones to try. I will give them a go and see how I get on. Just got the greenhouse in the first lockdown so last year was my first attempt growing tomatoes with bought plants.
heatherduthie The coloured ones (blue ,black, yellow etc ) are just as easy to grow and taste just as nice . I imagine they make a salad look more decorative . Sadly the plebs I give them away to just like tomato coloured tomatoes
Golfforall hahaha. Yes that’s the ones. My grandson will be 4 in April. And last year he loved helping me in the greenhouse. I thought they would be quite fun to grow with him.
You can do those in a hanging basket too , did them a couple of years back in a basket and had a huge crop right up to the end of September .
Golfforall update. order arrived today. Well impressed with the speed of delivery. Thanks again for sharing this deal
Good stuff , I was surprised how smooth it was with no twigs or lumpy bits . Got my chillies and sweet peas in it already propagating away .
Golfforall Ive just thrown mine into the greenhouse so haven’t opened it yet. I will maybe plant some seeds next week and pop them into the airing cupboard. Too cold for the greenhouse yet.
