How to use Google Lens to compare prices and save money

Google Lens can be used to compare prices and save money. Take a photo or search an image with Google Lens and it finds relevant products with the prices displayed.

Click, click - see all the cheapest prices. This is how easy it is now to compare prices online. Google Lens is one of the biggest and best price comparison tools, but no one seems to know about it.

How to use Google Lens for price comparison

On desktop / laptop

Image
  • Use Google Chrome web browser
  • Right-click a product image
  • Press 'Search image with Google Lens'

On mobile / tablet

Image
  • Using Google App
  • Press and hold on a product image
  • Press 'Search inside image'

With your phone camera

Image
  • Open Google App
  • Press the Camera button inside the search
  • Take a photo of the product (make sure it's clear and preferably against a plain background)

Google will then show you a list of similar products and prices

In this example, you can see Google has found 'visual matches' and displays the price above it. The product is £8 at Boots and further down (not visible on screenshot) is £18 elsewhere. Comparing prices with Google Lens just saved you £10.

Benefits of Google Lens price comparison

  • Quick and easy. Two clicks to compare prices.
  • Visual recognition. It uses image recognition to find matching products at different stores which is a different approach to other price comparison tools and normally finds more results.

Problems of Google Lens price comparison

  • No information on stock levels or delivery costs
  • Does not find everything
  • Includes shops from other countries which are not relevant

My preference for advanced price comparison is Idealo. It is far more capable and you can use it from within Latest Deals by searching from our homepage.

Notes from Tom

I use Google Lens when I'm shopping online and in-store for branded goods. It's also useful for fashion, showing you similar-looking products potentially for cheaper. When you see a product at an unfamiliar store you can use it to find other stores that are selling it too.
