Mum Of 6 Saves £100s On Pink Wall Panelling With £22 Wallpaper Hack
- Laura wanted to upgrade her daughters’ bedroom to make it more sophisticated
- Instead of paying £100s for wall panelling she found 3D wallpaper for just £22
- Other bargains include a TV cabinet and cast iron fireplace from Marketplace
Decorating a home on a budget can be tricky at the best of times, but when you’re doing it for your children you want them to love the finished result. That’s the challenge one mum of 6 faced when her youngest daughter needed a bedroom upgrade.
Laura Mair from Midlothian, who is a cleaner and works in a nursery, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: ‘I redecorated my six year old daughters’ bedroom because she was getting a lot of stick from people saying she needed to grow up.
‘I wanted her room to be a little more sophisticated, and when I found some wallpaper that I thought would be perfect, the idea for the overall theme grew from there. I have created a warm, pastel-pink room with lots of pretty decorative touches.
‘The wallpaper was £22 from Amazon, and I got two rolls. I love the 3D panelling effect - it looks really realistic. I know that getting the real deal would easily cost £100s so when I found this wallpaper I knew it was the next best thing.
‘I also painted her drawers using Frenchic paint in the shade Dusky Blush. This paint is £16 for a small tin, but it goes a long way. I love Frenchic, and I wouldn’t use gloss again.
‘I picked up new handles for the drawers from Amazon, and they were only £11 for a pack of 10. I got the mirror from there as well for £65, and I put a flower garland on top to make it look nicer. While browsing the site, I saw a chair for £135 which I also picked up.
‘I got a cast iron fireplace from Marketplace at a fraction of the original price, painted it with the Frenchic paint and then bought a fire poster from Amazon to give it a real fire effect.
‘I wanted to make the room look bigger so I bought stick on mirrors from The Range, they were very cheap. It gives the space a welcoming and homely feel combined with the fireplace. I had leftover carpet from a previous project so I used this in the room.
‘The TV cabinet was from Marketplace, and it was only £40 which I thought was a bargain price. I used the light fitting from the living room for her room so I saved some money there too.
‘All of the accessories came from The Range and Amazon. The plants and plant stand were about £45 in total from Matalan, and I got a vase with dried flowers from The Range. I painted it in Dusky Blush to match the drawers.
‘The wooden shelves came from Amazon, and they were £16.99. I added some accessories to jazz it up a bit.
‘The steps to complete the project were simple - I painted the walls first, then applied the wallpaper. Then I laid down the carpet and began adding in the furniture, followed by the accessories.
‘My daughter’s room looks great now and we are really pleased with the results.’

‘According to CheckATrade, the average cost of wall panelling is over £200, so getting £22 wallpaper is a great workaround! Plus, cast iron fireplaces can cost as much as £500 and I have seen pink tub chairs like the one used in this room for £100s more than Laura paid, so the overall savings here are incredible.’
