Octopus Energy Offers Four Freebies to Help Customers Cut Costs
- Octopus Energy’s £30 million ‘Octo Assist’ fund supports customers struggling with energy bills.
- Free electric blankets: 20,000 still available this winter, cutting heating costs by up to £300.
- Thermal imaging cameras lent for free to spot heat loss in homes.
- Free electricity sessions for customers with smart meters during low wholesale prices.
- In-person energy-saving advice offered through home visits
As energy prices rise again, Octopus Energy is stepping up with a £30 million ‘Octo Assist’ fund, offering practical support to help customers manage their bills this winter. Four key freebies are currently available through the programme, designed to reduce costs and improve energy efficiency.
Free electric blankets: Over 65,000 vulnerable customers have already received these, with 20,000 more available this winter. Research by Octopus shows electric blankets can save households up to £300 on heating costs.
Thermal imaging cameras: Customers can borrow these cameras for free to identify draughts and implement easy fixes, helping to lower energy consumption.
Home energy helpers: Tailored in-person advice is available again this winter, with over 300,000 homes already benefitting from these visits.
Free electricity sessions: A new initiative this year allows customers to enjoy free electricity during specific periods when wholesale prices drop. This is available to those on the “Octoplus” programme, provided they have a smart meter and pay via Direct Debit or smart prepay.
Octopus Energy is also urging customers to contact them for further support or to arrange smaller, more manageable payments. The energy provider is campaigning for market reforms, including regional pricing, which it claims could save UK households up to £90 each year.
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy, said, “We know many customers are struggling with their energy bills this winter, and we urge anyone in need to get in touch. There’s help available.”
For assistance, customers can email Octopus at hello@octopus.energy or call 0808 164 1088.
Tom Church comments, “Octopus Energy’s approach to providing tangible, practical support like free blankets and thermal cameras is a welcome relief during tough times. However, customers should act quickly as these freebies may not last long, especially with rising demand."
