- Poundland announces closure of all 800+ UK stores on December 25, 26, and New Year's Day
- Staff will receive a £25 voucher to use at their local Poundland store
- The move is to thank employees for their hard work, especially during the busy festive season
Poundland has confirmed that it will close all its UK stores on Boxing Day to give staff a well-deserved break during the festive period. The discount chain, which operates more than 800 stores, will close its doors on December 25, 26, and New Year's Day.
This closure is part of the retailer's effort to recognise the hard work of its employees, especially during the hectic Christmas season. Staff members will also be gifted a £25 voucher to use in-store ahead of Christmas as a token of appreciation.
Simon Wells, People Director at Poundland, said: "We have brilliant colleagues here at Poundland & Dealz who work incredibly hard throughout the year, bringing our brands to life every day and supporting our customers. But we know they all particularly shine at Christmas, bringing the magic to our stores that our customers know and love."
This announcement comes alongside Poundland's drive to hire 1,000 new seasonal staff to help manage the festive rush, with most roles ending on Christmas Eve.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: "It’s fantastic to see Poundland taking care of its employees with a well-deserved break. After a busy year, it’s important for retailers to prioritize the wellbeing of their staff.
I'm a huge fan of Poundland, we have two Poundlands in Yeovil, at one point we had three. Both of the current Poundlands have friendly staff who are always a joy to deal with in my experience and some fantastic prices for some of their products.
