What's the Story Behind Chessington?
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a place called Chessington. It was named after a man called Cissa who lived on a hill. Many years later, a big house was built in Chessington and it was called the Burnt Stub. But one day, during a big war, the house was burned down by soldiers. The people who owned the house decided to rebuild it and make it even bigger and better than before!
Years went by and the house became an inn where people could come and stay. Then one day, a man named Reginald Goddard had an idea. He loved animals and wanted to share his love with others. So he turned the grounds of the Burnt Stub into a zoo! People came from all over to see the animals and learn about them.
As time went on, the zoo grew and grew. It became part of a big company called the Tussauds Group and they added even more fun things to do. They added rides and attractions and turned it into a theme park called Chessington World of Adventures! And now, families can come and have fun together, riding roller coasters, seeing animals, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
