If 1 Store Could Open near You....
Ask a Question
If you could have any store open in your town, which one would it be?
I wish there was a Waterstones! There are no bookstores near here and I miss browsing instore.
I keep seeing offers for Heron foods and they look really good but I don't think there are any stores like that in the south west. Here in the south west there are a chain of stores called 'Proper Job' which are really useful stores with great prices on DIY products. The nearest store is in the tiny town of Somerton which is 9 miles away but Yeovil does not have a 'Proper Job' store in fact looking at their stores we would be their most southerly store if we got one. I actually tried to get a 'Proper Job' store in Yeovil but that revealed that Yeovil business rates were uncompetitive with other nearby towns and which is why Yeovil has so many empty shops. I don't get how so much retail property can be just left empty without costing their owners a huge amount of money.
BonzoBanana There is a lot of Heron Food shops in the West Midlands and when I moved from there a couple of years ago to the north, I really miss them! There are some but much further away.
SamGoodship I didn't realise it was more of a West Midlands or Midlands like chain I just assumed they hadn't moved into the south west as we are a bit sparsely populated and often miss out on some of the smaller chains of shops.
I'd love any cheaper brand of shops. We don't have shops like alidi. We have shops like waitrose or m&s. We don't have primark either
Jerseydrew oh no! Both shops of M&S and Waitrose they sell all their foods at an expensive price! We usually buy fruit and vegetables they are on offer here in Leeds, we have an M&S local just up there road and a bigger store in town Center
kitty88uk don't I know it and they put the prices up even saying it's getting it here that makes it more expensive
Jerseydrew is that so! Is there no other shops where you live?! We have a Primark in town too but I don’t shop there much, I buy clothes from Sainsbury’s lol they used to do good sales even with 25% off! But I haven’t bought any new clothes as I keep wearing the same one
JLouM yes I know about yellow stickers we always buy reduced foods!! Nothing wrong with them and are still edible. We have been buying foods at reduced prices for more than 10 years or so and have saved up so much money!
Family goes to Waitrose and any other supermarkets and we always buy foods that are on offers with nectar or club cards etc and use coupons too
They just recently bought a few packs of greens at M&S reduced to 35p each one has two
I don’t get offers on my sparks either lol
JLouM I see you use the Waitrose app. We have three people signed up to it in our home and we then get six coupons a week plus the occasional extra ones they give you on their own products. I find the £2 off chicken a very good one.
kitty88uk our Morrison is a franchise. It's ridiculous the stores that open if aren't franchises or concessions are expensive designer brands
Jerseydrew omg that’s awful!! Yeah they like to hike up their prices on everything! Pfft I don’t even buy designer brands like what’s the point?!
Is the Morrisons there any good or the foods are expensive too? No reduced items with yellow stickers?
Jerseydrew that’s annoying lol there should be more shops and supermarkets with good reasonable prices that people can afford to buy foods to eat!
kitty88uk yup but where I live there's no poverty or poor people. Just spongers and scroungers that need to get a job.
Truth is the finance industry and government won't admit where I am is no different to anywhere else in the world and pretend it's not happening and doesn't exist. The issue is people are moving away because they can't afford to live here. It's going to get the point there won't be supermarkets or other places where the staff paid low wages because rents and cost of living is so high Low paid workers can't afford to live here
Jerseydrew where is it that you live at? Yeah so many people moving away to live elsewhere cause they can’t afford it! Which in turn like you said more and more supermarkets and other shops will close down!
kitty88uk the channel islands. It's beautiful but crazy expensive. We're a tax haven so there's lots of money in the island but a lot of those that live here are skint
Jerseydrew is that so! Sounds like a nice place to be at! And yes can tell it’s very expensive! Have any photos you can share for me to see the scenery?
I would love to see a Pie & Mash shop open at the top of my road. I would most likely put on an awful lot of weight but I really miss the old fashioned London Pie & Mash shops. It would have to be a good one though with real eel liquer and marble table tops.
Fitchet What a great idea. Back in the day we had tuck shops so your idea could replace these. Keep the prices low and you could be onto a winner.
I would love a M&S food hall to open near us. I’m sure it would would be very popular, we have Waitrose and Lidl about a mile away.
Pjran popular yes but M&S foods are pricey lol we have a big shop in town and a local one up the road too
We always buy foods with reduced prices yellow stickers
Past few years more people are buying them too lol like you didn’t care few years ago now they do whatever they can, one time when the cart came out a whole load of people rushed towards it! Damn crazy!
Pjran wow that is expensive lol you do know that it’s just their brand name that makes their foods that pricey?!
When you can get the same amount of fresh tomatoes at a much cheaper price at most supermarkets?!!?!
Do you not buy foods that are reduced with yellow stickers?
Most of them are still good quality even tho ouch it’s near expiration dates
M&S or John Lewis would be a great addition to our town , but as M&S closed about 4 years ago I don't think they would reopen , thou the food hall which was tiny used to be really busy, never understand why they didn't expand that and reduce the clothing area in the store .
Mango4 They did close our M&S in town and then moved it to out of town. I go their occasional, must admit it is always busy when I do go.
I'd love a sainsburys often see good deals but none close. I liked looking round primark but spent too much so probably best we don't have one
We have The Range and now b&m instead of Wilko but not home bargains. Is it the same? No Heron or farmfoods down here either.
JLouM I do miss Wilkinsons and like you with have a B&M instead. Not the same. Higher shelves, thinner aisles, feels very claustrophobic.
I like a local Aldi, have Sainsbury’s and Tesco local walking distance but they wack up the prices unless on nectar or clubcard . I love a proper bakery to be honest.. go get fresh loaf etc..
If there were two stores I could have reopen in my town it would be Wilkinsons and Debenhams.
kitty88uk ...Daughter's just finished her Diagnostic Radiography Degree at Bradford, she gave up her rented flat on Great George St on Saturday & moved back to Sheffield..
Daughter loved Leeds, Sheffield has changed sooo much she says & no longer recognises it..
Sheffield lost Debenhams, John Lewis, Wilkinsons & others, city centre is pedestrianised now..
Like my black cat Phoenix Sheffield will rise again! X
janphoenix51 lol sounds like a place with no shops whatsoever!! Deserted haha only place we go to shop there many many years ago probably haven’t been to that huge shopping mall for over 10 years can’t remember the name. *called Meadowhall
Used to go to Sheffield to that shopping place on way to visit relatives but don’t bother anymore waste of petrol and nothing to do
