Is £4.50 Expensive for an Ice Cream?
Ask a Question
Is £4.50 for an ice cream too much?
An eight-year-old from Burnley went viral after expressing outrage over paying £9 for two ice creams.
SamGoodship Three pounds something the last time I bought one which was last year. May have gone up a bit since then.
More fool them for paying it. I want a tub of ice cream for that money. Unless it's something fancy, Gelato or served in a restaurant I think they were thinking too much of their tummy's and not enough of their poor parents bank account.
EmmaWright762 They didn't pay it, it's what it would have cost and they were outraged.
I'd say it's both extortionate and the norm. I refuse to buy icecream from a van buy a tub instead
I probably wouldn’t pay that much but have no small children to disappoint. It’s hard when you have to say no to children especially when on holiday.
In this case yes as apparently they were just two screwball ice creams from a van . However if you are looking at buying a large premium ice cream from a proper ice cream store in a tourist area probably not.
Depends how many scoops i guess, for 2+ large scoops id say that’s a fair price but for a single scoop and cone/tub that is ridiculous
SamGoodship yeah that is disgraceful tbh, in my local park a 99 is about £3 which i think is far too much, luckily i live within a couple of minutes so can just take an ice cream from my freezer.
I’m sure screwballs are under £2ish
I've just seen the video, she is having a proper old rant, and she didn't actually buy the ice creams. Good girl. That is disgraceful.
Whenever I by from an ice cream van the prices are always displayed - if not then I will ask. If i think something is too expensive then I wont bother buying them. I wouldn't bother going online and telling the world how I feel ripped off. Some ice creams are worth it when you are out and about and fancy a cool treat.
If it's for a standard ice cream from a van or something then yes that's extortionate! Bearing in mind most use a ready made mix for their ice cream which is cheap to buy, we're paying over the odds at that price!
I think it depends on the whether it was a large or a small ice cream, if it was a tub or cone, how many scoops there were. If it was a large chocolate covered waffle cone with 3 scoops at the seaside from a proper ice cream store then it is probably round about the norm. If it is just for a small ice cream or ice lolly then yes that is extortionate.
I went to my local lake two days ago, the go to place on a hot day and ice creams there had literally doubled in price. Yes I did pay £8.50 for 2 of them but I rarely buy them. I noticed many did, but also lots looked at the prices and walked away too. I don't think it's prices are that high on ice-cream I think they're taking advantage of the public and an opportunity in the hot weather whilst it's here!
That is the most expensive ice cream cone surely. I would be outraged too at that. People are taking advantage of the so called recession and ripping us all off.
In my day a saucy tanner was sixpence, 99 flake was 99p. Fab lolly was under a £1 as well.. Oh how times have changed. Just one Cornetto give it to me, but not if it's too expensive - I'll go without
I always check the price of an ice cream before purchasing. I only buy them singular when on holiday. I buy the multipacks in store.
When I bought the kids an ice cream last year they were £3.75 for a single scoop. So I guess with inflation that sounds about right. Definitely not cheap.
Our local van is like that. We used to go quite a bit. Now only go a handful of times due to expense.
Everybody knows a ice cream is very nearly a 90% profit so to put it bluntly they are thieves
Yes that is expensive, I was at the seaside a couple of weeks ago and a Mr Whippy was £3.50 there.
