All but 7 Countries on Earth Have Air Pollution above WHO Standard
In the News
This is shocking when you think about it
Only 7 countries meet WHO standards for having clean air and we are not one of them
They are Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius and New Zealand
Surprisingly the Middle East, Africa and central and south Asia are in the worst category
And Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Tajikistan and Burkina Faso ranked as the five countries with the most polluted air in 2023
I have been to New Zealand and Iceland and can confirm they have extremely clean air , so i am not surprised by them being two of the seven , but Iceland may not stay in that ranking long with the volcanic eruptions they are experiencing at the moment
Estonia was a surprise but they do suffer from land and sediments contaminated with hazardous substances and fertilisers , so clean only from the air point of view
No surprise the countries with clean air have low population densities and the countries with the worst air quality typically have high population densities.
BonzoBanana Thats true B, and there are also other pollutants to take into consideration , namely those being absorbed into the earth
Until the countries who pollute the most make great inroads into cleaning up their air countries like us are fighting a losing battle and the positive steps we make actually make little or no difference overall as we are too small to make a big difference!
tumblespots I agree T, its the big players like China , Russia India etc that cause the most environmental damage, we in the UK cause a lot less, a drop in the ocean if you will excuse the pun
But everyone here has been hit with green taxes with more in the pipeline , so we are paying for everyone elses mess
Not a shock to be honest. Sadly the rich people that can do anything about it don't care about the environment. They would rather put money and their profits over the future of the planet
Jerseydrew That is so true J , if they had a conscience they would be thinking about the future generation, which includes their children in most cases
