What Would Be Your Advice to Maintain A Healthy, Happy Marriage?

Ask a Question

As we get older we realise we don't live in a Disney movie and life can be hard. Marrying a person you truly love is a wonderful gift of life. I'm so lucky to have married the love of my life. I feel many times people are naïve to think it is an easy road with no bumps. So lets throw in our advice to sustain a happy healthy marriage 🙂 I'll start...

Remember you are on the same team 🙂

I have been married for 27 years to my childhood sweet heart. I think the key to a happy marriage is not to stop the person enjoying what they like. My husband has a love for cars. He has purchased over 30 since we have been together and I have never stopped him once.

Supporting each other, communicating, respecting each other and remembering that marriage takes work. Even when married to the love of your life it isn't always easy. People can't believe it when I tell them that my husband and I never argue. It is because we talk about things calmly, without shouting and we try to understand each others point of view.

Don't neglect your husband when children come along. Sorry to sound sexist but women do deal with the babies more so it's important to get them into a good bedtime routine asap so parents can snuggle up on sofa with a glass of wine, movie, chat etc. I know many will say dads should shut up and put up but women wouldn't like it if they were pushed into the background after a new arrival. Help each other when not at work and have evenings for each other.

Not married but been together 25 years. The key to our success is he learnt quickly that I'm always right 😜.

Jokes aside, It's having trust in each other & being best friends. He's always the person I'd choose to spend my time with.

Also accept everything is not always 50-50. Sometimes it's 80-20 or 60-40 etc. Communicate & learn to compromise!
