Advice for a Little One Who's Sick
Ask a Question
My little one is 2 years 8 months old now she's had a cold over two weeks she's had antibiotics and using a inhaler she's been to the doctors twice they said if she's got asthma she will have a few infections, nothing seems to be working she's still burning up coughing to point she's sick her face is red raw because she won't stop wiping her nose now that's bleeding abit because it's so dry and this morning she woke up with green stuff around her eyes I'm at my wits end just want my baby to feel better she's not eating much but drinking plenty of water any advice would be appreciated
Hi. I don’t have children but I have been a child with plenty of colds. Can she drink room temperature (cold but not very cold) milk? It has to be semi or full fat. The only reason I say this is because it can form a ‘film’ for throat and stomach. It may help with the cough. It’s also full of vitamins. I don’t think you can do much for the nose except use balm tissues and maybe a tiny bit of unscented moisturiser if you get the chance.
Sorry to hear.Just spoil her rotten and keep her cosy and warm.It will pass eventually.A little ointment around the nose to stop it being sore perhaps?
MelissaLee1 I've put vaseline on but she keeps wiping it off it's ever since she started nursery she's always ill but hasn't been this bad before
Leannexxx When she comes through the other end of it ,Hopefully soon, she's gonna have a super tough immune system.
Aww bless her. Her eyes could be bacterial conjunctivitis perhaps? If shes been rubbing her nose then eyes they could have got bacteria in. Try a tiny bit vaseline around outside of her nose, will act as a skin barrier. Perhaps try a child daily vitamin to help boost her immune system. I do sympathise, I have asthma & getting a bad cold/ nasty cough can be rotten. Does she use a spacer with her inhaler?
Glitterandgold yeah she's got the space thing for her inhaler and I'm using vaseline but she keeps wiping it off so last night I did it when she was asleep I asked the doctor over vitamins and he said he doesn't advise it as she's getting everything from her food
Nothing worse than a poorly child, are you giving her Calpol? Make sure she drinks plenty, if your really worried go to A&E
martinlufc5637 yup Calpol she's been having for the last week my other half wants to take her to a&e it's me that thinking they won't do anything
Leannexxx my youngest was poorly a few weeks back, she rubbed her lip so much is was was really bad and sore, we took her to a&E because our doctors was useless, antibiotics and something for her lips, she was better within days, she'd had it 3 weeks too
There's nothing worse than watching your child suffer. I am always wary of giving medical advice but some harmless ideas: Vicks vapour rub on chest and neck so she can't rub off. Mild moisturiser hourly around nose upper lip for soreness, homemade diluted juice ice lollies or flavoured milk lollies, make up remover pads dipped in cooled boiled water for eyes, different pad for each eye. Her own towels not family ones, minimal contact with other kids/siblings just cuddles from mummy with hand anti bac regularly used. Veg soup if she will for warmth, fluids and vitamins and snuggle blanket on sofa with good cartoon/film! Hope she is better soon. X
If your worried or concerned about your child, then either speak with your local pharmacist, phone 111 and talk to them or back to the doctors, Proper medical advice is whats needed.
Keep checking her temperature and if high ring 111 for advise. They will suggest A&E if necessary or confirm you’re doing all the right things.
Have to preface this commentary with - I am not a medical doctor... I hope she recovers soon! I would try calling 111/consult a doctor again if necessary. A fever (elevated temperature) is a sign that the immune system is working but a temperature over a certain level must be addressed by a doctor (I would call 111 and ask what that temperature is for a child). Antibiotics wipe out bad and good bacteria so it's crucial to fortify the immune system (regular infections are a sign of a weakened immune system - the body can't defend itself properly against foreign organisms that can cause disease). Whole and organic foods containing the highest levels of vitamin D and C help boost the immune system. Difficulties eating = smoothies and/or vegetable juice. Water = adding a squeeze of fresh lemon/lime juice gives a hit of vitamin C. Hope this helps
Sounds like a bad chest infection. So she needs antibiotics but maybe not the ones she's already had. See your GP again maybe a different one to the one you have already seen. Or 111 or if really worried take her to A&E. I hope your daughter gets better really soon.
