JWM & TheChimp The Guinness price is listed twice as there appears to be two separate bars - one being 'the event' bar, the other being a Revolution Bar - which are different entities entirely and therefore have obvious decided to charge different prices. It's a bit like having a Greene King pub next to a J D Wetherspoon pub.
£7.50?
We are in a village and our local was charging £6.90 just after Covid lifted. I don't know how much it is now because we won't go back.
I don't think that £7.50 isn't too excessive if you're going to a big race day like Aintree
I went to a funeral a few weeks ago, went to the after due for a drink, nothing posh, it was £8.13 a pint robbing
The Mixer/Soft Drinks prices are all acceptable by me. I have paid similar amount to this list years ago, but I got a tall glass for my money.
Only if my horses came in!!!
Probably couldn't afford too many with the winnings as I don't bet a lot !!
If you can afford to go to the Grand National and bet you can certainly afford those prices.
I wouldn't go to the grand national, I have done free bets on the race in the past but nowadays I feel really guilty about the plight of the horses and just ignore it. I picked up a pint can of cider at Home Bargain today, Strongbow I think which was 540ml? or something like that for 75p just for the novelty. I rarely drink alcohol but do like cider or a beer occasionally.
I guess if you are able to afford to attend these events then the prices of food and drinks won't be a problem.
Unfortunately, the prices listed above are comparable to pub prices in my area. Given visitors can't bring alcohol into Aintree Racecourse the prices are fairly reasonable. They could easily charge more for captive racegoers.
I would not pay those prices. No wonder people buy from supermarkets these days. Drinks are 100% profit when you`re out as that Is the first thing they ask you at a Restaurant? What would you like to drink!
I actually don’t think these prices are expensive for somewhere like Grand National, they’re not much dearer than local pub prices though £46 for bottle £6-£8 Prosecco is bit much and mixers are bit on the dear side at £3.20. Though if you can afford to go to the Grand National and pay to get dressed up for the day these prices are probably pocket change to you. Wish they’d cancel event completely after hearing news last night of 4 horses being killed over 3 days of racing, tragic waste of these poor animals
chele44 The drink prices are reasonable for a horse racing event. Horse racing has been around for more than 150 years without anyone giving a toss about the horses' welfare and suddenly some looney protesters highlight animal cruelty and now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to ban the sport or to be kind to the horses.
jam45 That's quite an extreme comment to say people who care about animal cruelty are looney protesters.
OMG what an awful comment to leave!! Animals don't have a voice and need people to help them, personally I feel every insect or animal is entitled to life and I do all I can to help, it's a good job there are people like me and looney protesters in this world to make up for uncaring people like you jam45!!
Don't care about the prices. Horse racing is cruel and should be banned. The prices are probably that high to stop people getting drunk
I could afford any of these drinks, yes, but I wouldn't feel totally comfortable paying such high prices. Given the limited choices for me - no draught cider, that should be criminal(!) - I'd possibly just get the "Staropramen alcohol free" at £4.15.
It is disappointing to note on the soft drinks front at the 'main bar' that they only seem to be doing Coke Zero / Diet Coke and Lemonade. I am already aware that both Coca-Cola options contain artificial sweeteners, but I am to assume that the Lemonade also contains artificial sweeteners. I deliberately do not knowingly consume artificial sweeteners for various reasons. Consumers should always have the choice of what to drink (have to take responsibility for your own consumptions, etc.), and no company or Government should be able to restrict that choice in such a way i.e.: through not offering Coca-Cola Original.
A pint of lager at our local theatre (not a posh place) is £6.50. I am afraid I just refuse to pay inflated prices and would sooner go without. I mainly drink water and always carry a small bottle.
To be honest for somewhere like the Grand National these prices aren't actually that bad. I thought they would be more expensive. I don't drink alcohol so would be having a soft drink and the prices aren't that much higher than places locally.
I couldn't afford to go to the Grand National anyway but I imagine if you can then you can afford the prices of the drinks.
Captive audience, they can charge what they want. Its an exclusive event, its expected. Its reasonable compared to other exclusive events. I dont agree with the risk to the horses so I wouldnt go anyway. I think Id have to have my own bottle to top up a bought drink.
They are ok prices for such an event . In fact we went for a Birthday meal to "The Botanist" in Cardiff City centre last weekend and they were charging £6.50 for Rekorderlig , so the same price.
