Aging - What Do You Miss Most?

Ask a Question

I miss not wearing high heels. I feel my outfits just don’t look elegant wearing flat shoes. I have pointed toe smart flat shoes, loads of ballerina, umpteen Birkenstocks.

I live in Birkenstocks but they’re not attractive to wear on a formal occasion.

What do you miss from your 20s and 30s?

I bought a tracksuit recently, after putting it on I didn't feel comfortable in it, I felt I was too old for it and looked silly

Pjran my wife said it's looks fine, I just didn't feel right in it, first time I've bought one in years, I use to always wear them in my 20's 30's

martinlufc5637 if your wife says it’s fine that should give you confidence. Always listen to your wife.

Although I have nothing to impair my mobility as such, I do miss not being nimble anymore. I can no longer run up the stairs, change the duvet without working up a sweat (and taking twice as long), and even muscle strength has declined so I cannot lift things I used to be able to move and lift.

Lynibis it’s tough accepting that we can no longer do things. I gave up changing the beds, I’ve delegated that job.

Pjran Lucky you lol, I live alone! There is so much I can no longer do but even with a partner (same age) I would be able to as 4 arms are better than 2.🐙

I cleaned out the conservatory gutters up a ladder last weekend but I must admit I kept telling myself I would have to pay someone to do them in future.

I hated wearing high heels. I loved how the shoes themselves looked but hating wearing them. They killed my feet. I definitely don't miss high heels, love my flat shoes.

I can't think of anything I miss from my younger years. Apart from not paying the bills.

I've never been able to wear high heels only because I was too tall so I look like a lamppost 🤣 honestly I kinda miss the freedom of doing what I want and I didn't have kids to worry about I wouldn't change it at all but I do miss it sometimes

I feel that i'm very casusal these days and go more for comfort, I dread it when someone suggests going out for a meal lol as I don't really have anything nice to dress up in, well I do but I don't feel good in clothes anymore or confident with my body, I was always a size 10/12 in my younger days but more a size 14/16 these days and that reflects how I feel about myself.

TiaTia I would love to be a size 14 again. I’ve kept lots of my classic style clothes hoping to wear them if I ever become slimmer.

I completely understand you with shoes. I can’t where high heels anymore but just having a slight heel does make you feel more elegant. I wear mainly fit flops now and I huge array of styles and colours. Expensive but worth it.

I miss high heels, l now live in trainers, l miss underwired lacy bra's & matching knickers or G strings, l now wear plain T - Shirt bras and bigger knickers, l won't wear T - Shirts or Cami / Spaghetti string tops as l feel my upper arms are no longer toned, l won't wear shorts as the tops of my legs wobble when l walk... however all these things are my insecurities and l feel frumpy 🥺

I've still got a fantastic memory for just turned 59, been a size 14 for years, I don't have bingo wings at all, taut legs BUT full of Varicose Veins & not toned tummy, not got a lot of strength in my hands..

I am nimble on my feet, I can run fast over short distances weave in & out of crowd & young for my age..

I have NEVER missed high heels, only prefering to wear kitten heels, skechers, trainers or boots ..

janphoenix51 wow you’re not aging, lucky you. My eye sight was almost perfect until my fifties but it’s deteriorating so need specs now. I love my glasses though and have so many pairs different styles and colours.

We used to work together 30 years ago & I haven't seen her in years..

I'm exactly 2 weeks older than Sue who's birthday fell on June 7th, she didn't believe that I was that old telling me

You never age Jan!

Being able to walk properly, not caring how i looked, confidence, independence, having my money to myself and no mortgage, my mum, not being told how everything is bad for me.

But on a massive plus side are that i have gorgeous children and grandchildren now.

I miss my health, my energy and having more choices in life. I miss being able to dance the most as I used to dance at County level and had some fantastic dance partners over the years although I used to compete solo. They called the category Disco but some of the moves were closer to gymnastics.

I used to love running and walking but at the moment I have ganglions on both ankles which means I can't fit into my trainers.I can walk in sandals but the straps have to be in the right position.I think the ganglions are age related.

SueWard that sounds uncomfortable. At the moment I’m only wearing a variety of Birkenstocks because they’re the only shoe I can get on.

I would only wear high heels especially being petite.. these days it’s flatform trainers and slippers . Also miss being wrinkle free, and my young athletic body especially my peachy bottom.

I’m in my 30s but i guess i miss the getting excited at things as much. A lot of the things i do now are not new to me so less surprise involved. Luckily there are still some things i haven’t done.

I miss not being able to operate new gadgets (even tv's) easily;

Being able to open pill containers easily as they are actually 'age proof' not 'child proof';

Waking up without wondering which new aches & pains I will get today;

Being able to sleep all night long;

Being able to bend down to reach something, now I have to get onto the floor and get up again;

Endless energy;

No fillings or crowns;

A better memory;

Watching the year march on and wondering why time passes so fast these days;

Buying off the peg clothes without worrying whether they will actually fit properly;

Being able to sit any any chair, with my back problem I can only sit on certain chairs these days;

I probably sound unhappy but I am actually very pleased with my lot and wouldn't go back in time for all the tea in China.

I’m impressed you can get on the floor and get up unaided. Try and focus on the positives count your blessings. I order clothing online so I can try on at my leisure.

Energy! I had it in abundance until my mid 30s. Nowadays I'm just constantly tired & never seem to feel fully refreshed.
