Andrew Lloyd-Webber Made a Knight Companion during Garter Day

In the News

Today King Charles and Queen Camilla lead the royal family in the annual Garter Day procession. It included the installation of new Companions of the Order—composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber has been made a Knight Companion. Now call me old-fashioned, but Andrew Lloyd-Webber is the last person I would want as a companion at night.

The upper classes giving out "titles" to their fellow upper classes. These nonsensical titles should be abolished or let's go back to the good old days when "gongs" were only given out to a selective few for doing something worthwhile for at least 20 years (I think) instead of a TV drama based on a real-life incident of many, many years ago, celebrities doing charity work (really?), Ex-prime ministers naming whom they liked to be given titles and/or to enter the "best day care nursery in the world" - The House of Lords quoted by a Guardian newspaper journalist.
