Do You Answer to Cold Callers?
Ask a Question
I have been receiving lots of cold calls as of recently which got me wondering do other people actually answer these calls?
I used answer and politely try to tell them I wasn’t interested but they don’t seem to take no for an answer. Now if i get a call like that i just put the phone down.
Nadiaparveen Me, too. I think my phone also filters spam calls but there's still quite a few that goes past it - I get numbers pretending to be local now, too. Does your phone filter all of them?
hky yes I've seen that too.. I don't answer them regardless.. surely if it's really very important they can email or drop a letter.
Today they filtered out a spam message, but I checked to see what it was just in case and it was a you need to pay you TV licence hoax ..smh
I used to answer some unknown numbers to make sure it wasn't actually important and just hang up or tell them not interested. But I received an automated call once that cost me credit (luckily I was almost out anyway) so I don't really dare answer now.
I would say it's nice to answer scam calls to waste their time so there's less time to scam someone else, if you're a confident person who has the time ( I read there's someone who does that) , but I just realised scam calls and cold calls are different.
I practice my NLP and hypnosis on them alternatively I just confound them with gibberish or offer to sell them silly things.
No because if anyone is not through my contact list then they can’t get through to me so in reality I wouldn’t know.
If I am not expecting a call my answer machine kicks in and I decide if I want to talk to them or not.
I don't answer numbers I don't know. If its important they will leave a message. I also check the number online to see if its been reported as spam and report the call myself.
Not at the door, I usually always take a peep out of my side window to see who's there. Never get any cold calls on my phone line, so lucky there.
If I see a number I don't recognise appear on my phone I'll ignore it. I figure if it is important they'll try again or leave a message........they rarely do.
Occasionally I'll look up numbers here
I answer my phone whenever it rings and if a cold caller I’m polite and say sorry not interested. Then I’ll press the number to be on my banned list.
Never answer cold callers with yes or no answers as they are all recorded calls and your yes or no answer could be used somewhere else
Yes, because if I don't they often keep trying.
Often they hang up or it is a robot so you can't do much, but then I can report it on the appropriate websites. I do get a little frustrated if I miss a call and search the web to check who may have called and it says 6 people have left comments, to find the comments just say 'I didn't answer, didn't recognise the number as I ASSUMED it was spam.' That isn't helpful information.
I often ask them not to call me again, it often works, better than ignoring.
If they persist I tell them I'm on the TPS and they are not allowed to call me.
I had an English lady the other day phoned claiming to be from the Gateway connected to HMRC, she referred to me with my name and address. When she then continued to tell me I was entitled to 40% back as I over paid in taxes. Which I knew was not true. I told her I would happy to talk to her after I checked with HMRC, when she quickly responded and picked her tone up and said, why would I need to do that, as she's just told me who she was. I said anyone could claim to be from anywhere... when she hung up on me. Absolutely disgusting how they scam people of their hard earned money.
Most are scams and not just genuine businesses trying to make money these days, as people aren't allowed to these days.
You can also forward scam/spam texts to 7726 (Used to be where the SPAM buttons were on the handset)
Nope I'm lucky that my phone tells me it's spam or I just ignore it and Google the number of it's something that I know I'll phone it back
I can thoroughly endorse TrueCall call screener. It puts off all but the bravest spammer as it asks for the name of the caller before it ring the phone. Most spammers will just dial the next victim on their list. Bought it used on ebay and the company have provided support even though i did not buy from them.
Depends on what they are selling. I normally put one of the kids on to talk them to death or if i feel in a talkative mood il tell them about my marriage breakdown. They soon disappear.
I do, but that's only because my baby has lots of medical professionals and surgeons involved in his care, therefore I need to answer any call that comes in incase its one of them, however as soon as I realise it's not, then I tell them to remove my name off their system and next time I get a call from them, I'll be sending them an invoice for my time. They usually agree and hang up
My phone filters and the rest I don't answer and then Google to check them. Then I block the unwanted ones which is most of them.
No. I don't answer to unknown numbers. GUARANTEED they'll be cold caller's. Some leave messages unrelated to me. I did buy a whistle and blow it very hard when they started their scripts but blew it too hard once I had a nose bleed
If I receive a call from any number I do not recognise, I just ignore it. if it is a genuine call they will leave a message. Normally if you call the number back the line either does not connect or you get a recorded message that "the number you have dialled, does not exist", but then again, some people cannot resist answering their phones every time it rings, scared they might miss out on something.
I am getting pretty annoyed with these now as I am ignoring them but missing out on calls that are important. I used to answer then just leave my phone on the table and walk away. I must admit we have had so fun and games with some of the calls in the past.
Yes, mainly because my phone doesn't filter, but I have had some fun with them. The best was a mobile number, Asian man called 'John' (my ex was John) to which I replied - so pleased you've phoned with your new number as my solicitor is trying to contact you for your lack of maintenance payments - he went into panic, no mem, no mem, not me, I'm not John, don't tell solicitor. I never heard from him again.
I know it's natural to say something when you pick up a phone but often it's a computer dialing the numbers, your voice connects it to a sales person if one is available, if it doesn't hear a voice it hangs up.
Yes. I answer them and request not to call otherwise they will share our numbers to other scammers to give a call
