Anybody Else Finding It Harder to Win Competitions Nowadays?
Ask a Question
I am just wondering if anybody else is finding it difficult to win something when they used to do pretty well. Up until the pandemic I was winning on average 1 or 2 prizes per month or up to a few months during a dry spell. But nowadays I go for several months (6 months or more) without winning anything. I am gussing that the pandemic lockdown has encouraged more people to get into online comping, and those people stuck with the habit ever since, thus decreasing your chances of winning.
Wow RegularComper91 that's amazing winning one or two prizes per month , I've only ever entered the online magazine competitions (not Instagram or Facebook) and usually win a competition every three to four months.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that l can keep my winning momentum going. Very good luck to you that your past winning ways return soon
When I used to enter by card and stamp I won regularly as clockwork now I do online it's hardly ever.
RegularComper91 All sorts.Holiday in Paris,Concert and theatre tickets,Booze,Books,Peanuts!Food hampers,money.More besides..
I’ve entered quite a few but don’t have time to do loads. However I have never won any competition I have entered in my life.
I also used to win one or 2 prizes a month. My last comp win was almost a year ago now. I still enter them daily but wins have definitely decreased.
I have won things occasionally. But wouldn’t say I enter loads. I do the competitions in take a break every week and the other week I won £20 which isn’t bad as I have entered nearly every week since the magazine started!
eyeballkerry Those Take A Break comps seem to be popular, so well done on your win. Even if it's only £20, it's still a win.
RegularComper91 It was nice surprise when I received it. £20 is better than no win. But I agree with you about it being harder. I do read stories about people winning all the time, I don’t know how they do that?
I used to win regularly but as with everyone else things have dried up
It is too much of a coincidence that others are saying the same, it makes you wonder if all competitions are actually giving the prizes ?
They always give an address you can write to if you want to know the winner, but thats dependent on the person wanting publicity , some competitions do give a winners name but it is usually just the first name and surname initial in a lot of cases, hmmm
I am usually very upbeat about entering and have always advised people to keep trying , be in it to win it etc , but i must admit even i am getting a bit despondent
Yeah I'm going through a dry patch myself, I may win a book or some such occasionally, but can't remember the last time I won a "decent" prize.
a dry patch myself with just the one win in the last 9 months. I must admit I am not entering quite so many these days though. Just dont have the time.
Yes, it is a combination of things isn't it, more people entering and less competitions being hosted/posted. January wasn't bad as I had 3 wins, 2 in Feb, 2 in March but only one so far in April. Years ago I won far more than I do now but if you don't enter, you can't win at all. Stay lucky everyone
I would also add that the methods of entering are changing and as an older technophobe I simply can't enter all the comps available these days as they don't include the simple website entry.
tumblespots that's me, An older technophobe, website is my only entry and probably always from a reputable name that I've heard of only, so l guess that I'm limiting my chances
Pinkspirit Snap! I think we are better off like this though as there are so many scams on social media.
I’ve never been lucky at competitions- but I keep plodding on - my ethos is that someone has to win it !
It's interesting that others are saying the same thing. Thanks for the responses, everyone.
Oh wow! I just had an email informing me that I am the winner of a £50 Morrisons gift card. I am so happy right now.
RegularComper91 Do you know it’s genuine? I get so many scam emails saying I’ve won something like this but always want personal financial details.
JLouM Yes, it is genuine. It is a rafflecopter comp which I remember entering. The email only asked for my postal address to send out the prize.
I don't win like I use to. I use to win at least once a month. It very rare now. But got a email a couple of days ago to say I'd won a £150 gift card for Selfridges! I'm over the moon with that win. It's the first gift card I've ever won even though I've entered thousands of competitions to win one. I've also just got a email saying I've won a book. So maybe things are going to change round again.
I got an email the other day saying I had won a beauty bundle from SuperSavvyMe. I was so delighted, it is my first win in ages.
I have been comping for 40 years plus and I used to win a lot more in the past than I do now.My last win was afternoon tea at the Ritz which was a real treat.I always do the TAB comps as I feel that they are upfront about declaring the winners and they even picture them in the mags.Keep on comping everyone.Lady luck will shine on you soon. My lucky black cat sends winning vibes!.
