Anyone Else Use the Internet Archive to Find Old Movies to Watch?
Other
I like many older cheesy movies or often unpopular movies that have got forgotten in time, and I often end up at the Internet Archive looking for an old movie to download and watch. Anyone else do this?
archive.org/details/moviesandfilms
Lots of stuff there, some a bit iffy, lots of classic scifi movies, films that are now out of copyright etc. Early b/w and silent movies. A quick rummage through normally finds something interesting to watch. Some classic Japanese movies there like Zatoichi movies although perhaps 'classic' is a bit too much but still an interesting bit of Japanese cinema. It can make an interesting distraction from modern movies which often omit a proper story. I've downloaded Grapes of Wrath to watch, not seen it for years.
A lot of colourised movies there as well which are fairly recent using AI colouring software. Results can be pretty good although it does feel wrong for some movies though where the b/w image added to the atmosphere of the movie.
Obviously everything is free and you can do whatever you want with the files and place them on phones, tablets etc when bored and out and about etc.
Yes I do. I got It stored on my computer In a separate window. I just click It when I want to browse. Some good stuff on there too.
My TV Mag has Talking Pictures channel 82 Freeview, Freesat channel 306, Sky channel 328, Virgin channel 445 showing old movies.
I will give your suggestion a try tomorrow.
I love old movies as well.Plenty on Roku.I have used the archive before and you have now inspired me to revisit.Thanks.
I had a look at archive.org/ and I was put off with the login in and borrow details. I think I can find all of those movies on YouTube without signing in.
I tried a Torrent website and quickly closed it. Apparently, you are advised to use a VPN for safety. I will stick to YouTube.
I don't log in, I just download the movies I want. I tend to not bother with the high resolution versions, I'm happy with the DVD resolution movies which are only about 400-700 Megabytes each typically under the H.264 format and just use save link to download the file. Saves space on my nas drives. Obviously if its worth having high resolution I will but the film has to merit it. Also lots of interesting magazines and books there to. Probably audio books and music too but not really looked at those.
Not a movie but I did manage to find every episode of Kizzy. It was a programme I used to watch as a child. Not many in series but enjoyed watching it again.
Does anyone still watch 3D movies at home anymore ?
I have the TV , a philips 3D thats a few years old , a Blu ray 3D player and some shop bought movies like avatar and some downloaded from the internet, and of course the glasses
I used to watch them quite often when i first got the kit but haven't bothered with them for a while
telmel I've got 2 3D TVs in the house, a 3D projector plus the original virtual reality headset for the playstation 4 and an android based virtual reality headset and still enjoy 3D on occasion. I played 3D games more than 3D movies/tv etc. The Playstation 3 was probably the best console for 3D gaming support. That was the era of 3D TVs. I could never get on with active 3D that well (which my 3D projector uses) I always preferred passive 3D that both my TVs use.
I still watch some anaglyph 3D movies on occasion and they can be shown on any TV you just need the right glasses which are cheap from ebay. Yes the colours aren't quite right but quite nice for a bit of retro 3D viewing which you can also use your laptop for. Youtube has lots of anaglyph videos and if a video is 3D you can also select anaglyph output. You used to get anaglyph output utilities for playing PC games in 3D too.
telmel I could be wrong but I think the virtual reality videos on youtube can also be shown on 3D TVs using the right settings. Of course if you are doing a roller coaster ride you won't get the full 3D effect of moving your head to see left and right etc but still a good experience.
telmel I purchased a Sony bravia 3D TV, I only watched one movie through it , it's now in the bedroom gathering dust , our main TV now is a Philips with ambilight, that I don't turn on
I never thought of looking for movies from there, I use internet archive for all my music to download, it's great
I don't watch a lot of movies but when I want to stream one I use ww1.m4uhd.tv there's plenty of choice there to be getting on with.
It got hacked yesterday and all user details stolen. I tried to start a thread about it but surprise surprise any thread I try to make doesn't made the grade around here. I don't advise you sign up for internet archive. 31 million user details including emails were stolen yesterday including mine.
compingonly Absolutely shocking. Fingers cross you won't have anything the hackers will want and that you have several email accounts like me. I had a look at that site last week and was not one bit impress with it. As mentioned earlier last week YouTube is my go-to free site.
compingonly Sorry to hear that. You don't need to sign up for the internet archive to use it though. I don't typically sign up to a site like that if I can download without signing up. Never even thought about signing up to them to be honest. I'm sick of sites that try to get you to sign up just so they can sell your data typically. So I don't sign up to such sites unless there is a real advantage to doing so.
Internet Archive is still not up again since they were hacked. I hope its not permanently down it was a great site.
