Can Anyone Explain This as I Am Stumped?

Travelling on the A38 between Burton on Trent and Lichfield there are 2 Shell garages 600 yards apart but have different prices to each other. I know we are experienced at being ripped off but this is ridiculous.
.
I don't think anyone can explain. I left my home for a 90 minute drive last weekend and as I passed my local Tesco it was 144.9. Further up the road about quarter mile it was 151.99 though admittedly they were different brands. After that it varied between those prices all the way, have never understood it.
As long as you know the price then you can choose which one to go for so you are not exactly being ripped off to be fair. There are not many businesses which have to display the main price like this in advance. There are lots of difference factors that will affect prices - including how much the garage has paid for the fuel they are now selling, with fuel prices seemingly changing every day this might explain it. If the second garage can still see their fuel for 1p more a litre then it seems as they have the better business model! Of course if everyone decides to go the the first garage they may have to change that!
