Can Anyone Recommend a Slow Cooker?
Ask a Question
I have never used one but read how cheap they are to use. So seriously considering getting one. Can I have some advice please on product and recipes?
I use a morphy richards slow cooker and I cook stew in it and I also make rice pudding my son has made treacle sponge in it too
tara73ziva Thank you for your reply. I will have look at that one. I do like a rice pudding and hadn’t thought about that in a slow cooker.
I have always had the Morphy Richards slow cooker, the 4.3 litre is the perfect size for us. This is the one I have :- www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-Cooker-460012-Slowcooker/dp/B07B6MZW9F?th=1
HEDGEHOGS Thank you very much for your reply and thanks for the link. I will definitely look at this one. Just had a look, thats a good deal, thanks
B & M currently have the Sear and Slow 3 1/2 ltr for only £20. I bought one a few years back when they had them for £15 and have found it really useful. On the other hand, I have had and used the Morphy Richards 6 1/2 ltr for many years, and it is still going strong, Drawbacks are that the ceramic inner is really heavy and must not be immersed in water! Great for bulk cooking, though, and you can cook two meat suet puddings in one session.
99% of slow cookers do the same job, buy the cheapest one for size you need. 1-2L is perfect for one person. 3L is good for one person batch cooking, and 6L is a good family size for batch cooking.
You can cook just about anything in them
They are absolutely fantastic and very versatile. There are many many recipes all over the internet and free ebooks on Amazon too. Plus they can make cooking easier and cheaper than conventional cooking methods.
If possible try getting a “sear & stew” type as they are extra versatile. Sear meat/veg on a hob then straight into the slow cooker for the remaining cooking. I personally have this one for sale on Amazon:
I use mine very often and have had the same one for many years. I recommend buying the biggest you can afford, once you get the hang of it you'll need a great capacity. And ... This is important buy one that can go into the oven also, beware of lids with a plastic handle... It will melt in a regular oven.
I love my slow cooker. I do everything from roast meat to porridge and deserts like sticky toffee pudding
They are great mines old it has a pot that you sear food in before you actually use. It’s great as you only use one pot and really easy and cheap to use.
Thank you for all great comments and advice i will definitely use all these recommendations especially about size and being able to use in oven.
Couldn't tell you what brand ours is and use it all the time. They all do the same thing so brand isn't important. Its the size that matters. We have a 6L one, wouldn't want it any smaller. Depends how many people it is being used for, but the big one means you can batch cook.
Thanks for that, I usually cook for 3-4 but I do batch cook so going for the bigger one makes more sense. I am hopeful out tomorrow and can start looking.
