Anyone Had the Shingles Jab? Oh dear, confession time!

Ask a Question

Had mine yesterday morning. By the afternoon i had all 5 of the reactions stated on the nhs website. Headache, chills, fever, tiredness and aching. I thought i had been suddenly struck with flu and i also felt nauseous.

I have never had such a bad reaction to any jab.

It was the first that hurt too, felt 4 jabs of the needle and now i have a perfectly round bruise just bigger than a 10p with a rough surface. Not looking forward to the second one!

Anyone else had this vaccination?

M3l1ssA thank you, I am ok today so it didn't last long, just a sore arm now. Far better than having shingles lol.

Did you have to pay for it? My dad was going on about it but doesn't know how to go about it

Leannexxx you just make an appointment with your doc so yes it is free. Is he 70 yet? You can only get it from 70, or younger if you have particular health problems.

Lynibis right ok no he's not 70 yet but I know he was talking to my brother's father in law and he got it now I know why he's got cancer

My parents have both had theirs. They were fine afterwards, no issues.

MrsCraig I am glad for them as it was an unpleasant 24 hours. The nurse was under instruction from another and I wonder if she didn't do it properly.

Lynibis it is entirely possible. My husband got a jag where the nurse didn't do it right and he was really ill for 48 hours afterwards. Glad you are feeling better now.

I’m only 42 so technically not eligible to have the jab, but I keep getting shingles: once in 2022, twice last year and now I’ve got it again. Taking some antiviral drugs at the moment.

Had some blood tests on Wednesday so I’m awaiting the results to see if my body is deficient in something. The doctor said if there’s nothing obvious then she’ll put me forward to get the jab.

I’ll definitely have it even with the possible side affects as I’m fed up of getting reoccurring shingles!

snoogans888 I bet you are. My granddaughter is in similar situation as she gets recurring shingles around her eye and if not treated can lose sight. Started in her teens.

Don't anyone be put off by my experience, as you say having shingles is far worse than a day of discomfort.

Lynibis oh my goodness around her eye must be awful! Mine is on my bum so I count myself very lucky that it’s not on my face. Has your granddaughter had the vaccine?

snoogans888 no, but she is on some sort of medication and hasn't had it for a few months. She just had a baby in October so hoping that will make a difference, though I can't see why it would.

Lynibis glad the medication seems to be working for her.

Unfortunately for me I think having a child weakened my body as I never had shingles before having her!

Fingers crossed your granddaughter doesn’t get anymore flare ups 🤞

Both my parents had the shingles vaccine, mum was ok swelling to the area and sore if touched, a bit of an achy head but all in all ok. But she’s had shingles 3 times once years ago then 2021 and 2022 but she had to be over 12 months clear to get the vaccine.

Dad well he was ill in bed for 3-4 days with high temperature aches and pains. Swelling and raised in the area but once it hit day 5 he was fine and he’s never had shingles.

IonaJones gosh, they have both had a rough time. Glad mine only lasted 1 day. I was told it doesn't stop you getting shingles but if you do it is milder.

Lynibis it can be very nasty on some people especially around the face area. If it means you have them milder it worth it for that.

Gonna be honest, ain't had those jibby jabbies since I was a teen.

I am going to do a breast scan (the left one has something odd) to make sure I don't have the c-word curse. I'm not sure I'd go through the recovery so I'd instead make a bucket list and do it all instead.

I hope it's nothing life threatening. I like my life, thanks.

PhilipMarc sorry to hear you're worried about your health, think positive.

Shingles jabs are only for 70 years and over.

Lynibis I’m not 70 and I’m getting my jab in February as I’m deemed vulnerable,as in same context as covid & flu is given to certain folk 👍🏽 had so many jabs in my life,I’m not phased by yet another,I’ve been lucky with no reactions 👍🏽

smallbike1961 yes I mentioned above that those who have certain conditions can get it earlier. I too am used to many jabs and have never reacted before, just wish I had been warned as I very nearly phoned 111.

I feel such a stupid idiot and I wasn't going to say anything, but in the interests of honesty and giving you all a good laugh....here goes.

When I got the jab the nurse was slightly behind me and the one instructing was at my side. Therefore the needle went in beyond my field of vision. It was only when I went to the mirror and saw the perfectly round bruise that I wrote my topic. By now you will have guessed. Next morning it itched and when I scratched a small round plaster fell away!!! I hadn't even been aware she had put one on, what a plonker I am!

I had the shingles jab at the same time I had my 5th covid jab. I felt really awful for about three days. Definitely not having anymore covid jabs.

stevea808 I suppose it's 50/50 in that scenario but judging by my experience I would bet on the shingles as my daughter in law said her dad was ill for about 3 days after it. Having said that I too am done with covid jabs.
