Has Anyone Suffered from Impetigo?
Other
I had to collect my son from nursery this morning and take him to see the pharmacist. Turns out he has Impetigo on his chin. I had never heard of it before. He has an antibiotic cream but he keeps licking his chin. Has anyone else had it? I know it is high contagious so he has to be off for a few days. Any tips on how to get him to stop licking it?
I feel sorry for him it's horrible sore and itchy I had it years ago and the bottom of my face just looked like a big scab had antibiotics and cream from the doctors and still to this day don't know where I got it from but try not let him pick at it make sure he uses is own washing products and towels
Leannexxx I've no idea where he got it from either. It is all over his chin and looks really red just now. He has ab antibiotic cream but if it doesn't help will have to go see the Dr. I think he is finding it itchy, I have to stop him from touching it. We don't share towels anyway but I was told to make sure he has own towel, face cloth etc. I'm hoping it doesn't last too long, for his sake.
I had it when I was in my teens when I was in the army. The doctor sent me to my own room instead of being in a dormitory. Might be an idea to contact the GP surgery and have a word with the nurse.
I was just coming back from our Dr after being diagnosed with Impetigo aged 11 one sunny August day....
Got knocked over by a car, my fault looked both ways, looked left again but not right, wasn't badly hurt, my 12 year old sister who was with me was in shock! I I was in a room of my own at the Northern General Hospital for a week because I had Impetigo, sooo bored! I missed out on my turn to go to work with my Dad but his employer still sent me sweets & pop with Dad so I didn't miss out..
My lovely Auntie was an Auxiliary Nurse in the Hospital so visited me regularly & bought me a Bay City Rollers Magazine which I lent to a close friend..
When I was discharged. I walked up the road from the Hospital ( We lived on the estate across the road ) I went to my friend's house to thank her for visiting me in Hospital only to find out that the Bay City Rollers pictures had been cut from the Magazine my Auntie had bought me by her SELFISH older sister & stuck on her wall, I wasn't too happy, ran home crying, my friend apologising for her BRAT of a sister.
Hope your little boy is ok, Impetigo is highly contagious, separate everything!! X
janphoenix51 that sounds awful! I've been told a few times how highly contagious it is, we are being as careful as possible. He is fine, doesn't like getting the cream put on but fine otherwise.
MrsCraig I made my tots (years ago) little cotton chin masks it helped with them trying to scratch then touch everything else, plus superman and wonderwoman wore them it's how they got their powers
lilyflower I had thought about putting something over his chin but wasn't sure what and not 100% certain he wouldn't just pull it off.
MrsCraig Dinosaur protection and racing drivers all wear them If you have any disposable masks get him to draw some pictures on one and see how it goes.
I got this years go, on my legs and arms etc, I was covered. It weeps a lot so needs kept clean. The cream should work, but if it doesn’t I’d get back to the doctors. Not a nice thing to have at all. I hope he is better soon
My daughter had it. Check your nursery policies. It used to be until it cleared up as standard practice but it's changed to if on antibiotics you can send in as normal. I'd check with the nursery because they may not be aware or are aware but won't change their policies which I'm personally with that stance as its highly contagious and would rather it was out my setting but I don't make these policies
Jerseydrew I already checked with his nursery. Has to be off for 48 hours, even on the antibiotics and can only come back after the 48 hours if the spots are dry.
MrsCraig awesome I just know every setting is slightly different. Personally I'm with the off 48 hours rule
Jerseydrew his nursery has a 48 hour rule for most illnesses. I don't send him in when he is ill anyway.
