Apple to Bring Other App Stores to the iPhone/iPad Ecosystem

In the News

Calling it "sideloading" is misleading because they're not going to allow users to sideload an app as they wish, instead they'll have to use an alternative app store and see if the app is there.

What sideload normally is: You search for an app via your browser, download it, install, and use it. Additionally, you could use a website such as VirusTotal to verify the app is clean and safe to install (it's what I do).

What Apple defines sideload as: Get an app from an alternative app store.

Do other app stores currently exist or will this mean we will see the creation of alternative app stores for the European market? I'm not very clued up on IOS today. When I owned a iphone it was very locked down with limited apps and not the huge amount of free apps you get on android. It was very limited which I know some people like for simplicity.

BonzoBanana They've not been announced, but it's possible.

It could be Xiaomi App Store, Amazon App Store, Samsung App Store, etc.

Some of those seem very unlikely though keep in mind they need to pay like $1m to have their alternative app store and it'll be controlled by Apple so it's not as if there'll be much freedom for iOS users.

Apple is really fooling millions of people by calling this "sideloading" when it really isn't.

This is how it should be, more or less:

PhilipMarc This fella from YouTube also thought about Amazon and Samsung potentially be those alternative app stores so I'm not alone on that. lol

Apple sure loves scaremongering their customers with the "risks" of using alternative app stores that they control and monetize oh excuse me, that's "sideloading" according to Apple. haha
