Apple Watch - tab on elderly....

Ask a Question

Hi - so does anyone use an Apple Watch for their elderly parents. To monitor them, or in case they fall down. Send SOS emergency incase heart rate drops etc.

Was never into the whole technology watch but practically now thinking for my parents. Any opinions welcomed. Worth the peace of mind?

Thank you

Worth the peace of mind but you might get some false alarm. My father in law has an Apple Watch and it has called for help a few times thinking he had fallen, when he was just cutting shrubs or doing other things.

I think its a great idea, not sure how reliable it would be as others have mentioned but it's could be worth a try as it could be a real emergency

You can get a monitored panic button or fall alarm such as these www.careline.co.uk/?adgroupid=1324913030563355&campaignid=423677121&device=c&matchtype=p&msclkid=b870363d6502123b024d556a92c8563e

Not recommending them or even know if it is the cheapest or most appropriate solution , but an example of what is available .

Golfforall The monthly contract soon adds up so I appreciate buying the watch is a great alternative. Garmin watches are pretty good too for keeping track of someone.

Pjran It certainly would ! However there is so much bad press around about this Apple watch feature (most owners have apparently disabled it ) . Giving so many false alerts when cheering your team , braking in a car or even riding on a roller coaster - so many false alerts reported .

Golfforall I guess if you are aware of what they are up to you keep in mind false alarms.

Golfforall not had an issue with Apple Watch and false alerts and all four of us have them. Saying that I never wear on nights out (which is when I tend to fall over) I always wear a proper watch. You only hear the bad stories but if you worked it out in percentages it’s a small amount. most the bad press for apple come from android users.

Golfforall my husband is a runner. Last week I noticed he was still for quite a while and thought he’s having a good chat with someone. Anyway after half an hour I messaged him, he was with a man who had fallen badly and was waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

possibly a good idea if they are reasonably tech savvy. things like regular recharging can be fiddly for some. I guess some smart watches the batteries may last a bit longer than others

They are a great bit of kit, never had an issue with false alarms or heard anyone else I know had an issue. Other features are good as well, ecg and blood oxyge.
