Arctic Zombie Viruses in Siberia Could Spark a Horror Pandemic, Say Scientists
In the News
Just when we are trying to cope with coronavirus and its mutant strains, scientists are warning of further viruses, not new ones, but ancient ones frozen in permafrost in the Arctic
Because of global warming the ice there is melting and could uncover them and cause further outbreaks of illnesses
The fightening thing is even if they have been frozen for one million years they could still reactivate
The permafrost is so cold they say a yoghurt frozen for 50,000 years could still be edible if defrosted !!

The greatest risk is overpopulation and the movement of people. This is what carries viruses so quickly around the world. I think the benefit of the artic and antartic is there are less people there to move viruses to other areas when they are unfrozen. I think the corona virus can survive maybe 3 days outside the body but that is in our temperatures. Maybe they can survive longer in a cold area or less. I think historically the most dangerous viruses have sidestepped from other animals like Covid from bats. So a huge amount of the virus is being produced in bats which are constantly mutating and that one virus suddenly starts working in humans.
It's worth pointing out in a single cubed metre of air there are 100s of millions of viruses and 10s of millions of bacteria and how many cubed metres of air do we walk through each day. We are surrounded in this world by virus factories (other humans) which are pumping out a huge level of viruses and the more viruse factories around you i.e. population density the greater number of viruses.
That's why its great to have a walk in the countryside give your body a breather from such an intensity of viruses as while there will also be viruses there they will be far less likely to harm you being generated by different animals.
It should be pointed out too we are 8% viruses. 8% of our DNA is from viruses. Also 2 or 3lbs of body weight in the average human is micro-organisms mainly bacteria rather than viruses though. We call ourselves animals but what we really are is bacteria colonies all working together with the brain identifying itself as a single lifeform despite being actually billions of lifeforms working together.
The mitochondria which is at the centre of how we live. It provides the chemical energy that moves muscles, allows us to walk and keeps the heart pumping is basically a bacteria or at least that is its origins. I can't think of anything more important in animals. To be animated (i.e. an animal) you need movement.
BonzoBanana Thanks for that B, only one thing i might disagree with is where covid came from , but thats a debate for another day , cheers
Pjran I do lecture people much to their annoyance sometimes but I'm just an amateur keen on the sciences. I read a lot of science websites mainly astronomy sites though.
A gram of soil contains billions of micro organisms apparently but I regularly have my hand in plant pots and am as strong as an ox.For now anyway.
MelissaLee1 It's all a delicate balance as you have to expose yourself to bacteria and viruses to keep your immune system working well. If you somehow isolated yourself from viruses and bacteria for a while your immune system would be compromised. It's all about controlling your exposure. If your body gets saturated with the same virus or bacteria i.e. food poisoning or doctors and nurses that keep getting exposed to the same virus as they move from ward to ward then you are in a dangerous situation. There is a numeric limit your immune system can cope with which will vary with each virus and bacteria I guess.
If all viruses disappeared we would soon be dead as the number of bacteria is partly controlled by viruses so bacteria levels would hugely increase. Also our own immune systems would possibly start attacking our own bodies due to lack of viruses. There is a video on youtube about this by 'thoughty' I think he is called. Viruses may also be a factor in evolution where they mutate and pick up some genetic material from their host when they replicate and then spread that genetic material to other hosts.
I'm ready for a zombie apocalypse lol who knows what's frozen deep in the artic, lord Lucan maybe
