Should They Axe Saturday Post?
Ask a Question
Should Royal Mail axe Saturday deliveries?
A union representing tens of thousands of posties is willing to accept an end to six-day-a-week deliveries. How would you feel about no more weekend post?
Well l hope they don't in my area, our post/sorting office has been on a skeleton staff for over a year due to so much staff sickness, we are lucky if we get our post twice a week, being Wednesday & Saturday at the moment. I have to go to the sorting office regularly to collect letters ..ie hospital / dental appointments, bank statement.. Christmas was a laugh most cards came late January and into early February....
SamGoodship it's sad that their prices are going up (stamps etc) but the service is going down
The postal service is so bad anyway I don't think it will make much difference. Hardly anyone sends letters anymore, why would you when email is instant, and everything from shopping to bills, to insurance, to banking can be done online. When those who don't use internet, mostly oldies, are no longer around it will have even less custom, especially with stamps so expensive. They are hammering the nails in their own coffin and all trust is gone since the post office scandal.
Lynibis I definitely agree. I can't remember last time I sent a letter. I was genuinely shocked when we got several letter on Saturday as usually just a little junk every once in a while
We went from having two deliveries per day to getting just one delivery, very late in the day. Now they want us to accept fewer deliveries per week! I understand that many people use email far more frequently than actual letters but I believe it is a retrograde step and one that will bring the beginning of the end for the Royal Mail.
SamGoodship When I was young! It was standard practice. It seems so sad that what was normal is constantly being eroded and the 'new normal' is always worse for the customer.
We don't get a lot of mail anyway but our deliveries have been shocking for the past year. You would get no mail for weeks and then a massive stack of them. Some people were missing hospital appointments and operations because of it. They are seriously short staffed here but they aren't recruiting.
No they Should NOT!
I don't want to wait untill the Monday or Tuesday for my post which might be important with appointments or bills to pay.
It should be in public ownership for a start.
Honestly makes no difference here we are lucky to get post once a week not that I'm complaining
The post men in my area can't even ring the door bell I have to go and get my mail on there tracker app it says tried to deliver no one at home i am house bound
If they can guarantee 1st class is next day for letters then yes. At the moment most of Saturday letters were sent 1st class on Thursday.
I think they should continue Saturday deliveries. It's like getting rid of a national instution. I mean someone could be waiting for a birthday card, Christmas card etc. They need to employ more posties male and female. Our postie is very cheerful and friendly when he delivers the post.
Well just like banks and post offices have had to close over the years then I think royal mail could do with delivering maybe at least twice a week to keep our postal system sustainable in the long run then can't see why not
Our lovely post lady works her socks off to deliver the mail on time. As she says though, if she's off I'll there is no-one to cover her shift. Making out mail late. Could mean hospital appointments or important don't arrive on time. Also they get set on by mindless people that have no respect for society today. Do what other companies do, hire youngerworkers for weekend if they need to cut costs so much. Oh we don't forget by the way how badly past staff were treated in the post office scandal!!!!
I don't think it would make much difference except perhaps for those waiting on birthday cards. Imagine your child's birthday falling on a Saturday and their grandparents cards not arriving. Having said that although the postmen and postladies in my area are lovely I don't expect their bosses would lose any sleep at the thought.
I sure hope not, however , if that is the only way they can keep priced down then we will have to get used to 5 days delivery.
No they shouldn't, create more loads and delays possibly! Most people are in and least parcels not left on door steps! Yes that happens does annoy me!
It really wouldn't make any difference to my family as we hardly get any post these days anyway.
Not fussed tbh, we normally only get rubbish though the post these days, especially on junk mail Mondays
