Have You Had a Bad Landlord?
Ask a Question
Let's talk about bad Landlords!
I want to know if you've ever had trouble getting repairs done, the quality of repairs, them coming over unannounced or trying to keep your deposit.
@Leahnnexxx if there are hazardous jobs that need doing in the property where your living and they aren't being done then the landlord is breaking the law especially if you pay the rent on time every month. There are many local organisations that will help you in the fight against your landlord..just Google it and I'm sure you can find help. Someone like citizens advice should be able to help
markstrong76 I did go to citizen advice and was told if I reported him he could kick me out and to be honest I'd have no where to go council said we would end up in a hostel and that could be anywhere till they can rehome us I don't wanna go down that road , we are on the housing list we bid in something every week if there is available we have been in this flat for 8 years took me 7 years to get a new boiler when it rains the windows and door leak in the kitchen at night it's like a jungle between sliver fish, woodlouse and centipedes it's full of mould and damp but I put up with it so I'm not homeless and hope at some point we will move
Leannexxx there are companies you can go to complain about bad landlords and there is something called no fault evictions. Your situation sounds absolutely horrendous and I don't know how you keep going as I'd feel so low.
If you look on the mse website there is lots of other people who might be able to suggest other means of help
markstrong76 I have to for my kids it's that simple yes it gets me down knowing we are living like this but we will have a roof over our heads I do what I can to sort most of the damp and mould myself but I can't do anything about the windows
Yes we did. Terrible conditions and they did come over eventually but it was hard work and then they turfed us out anyway.
JLouM oh ok. It would be a different situation these days as there are so many laws and regulations to help
markstrong76 Yes I think a lot has changed now. We have our own home now so not an issue.
When i was at university the house we lived in was not kept to a good standard, to the point it was actually dangerous. When we told them of our intention to leave they said it was our fault the work couldn’t be done cause we were living there, even though they made no attempt to do any of the work.
Long story short, had to go to citizen’s advice, who leaned on them a bit and they let us leave.
I was only 19 at the time so i learnt a lot from that experience
Yes I have had four Landlords that I have unfortunetly had to take them to civil court, not just to get repairs done, but my late partner passed away from cancer, before my last civil court case, through attepting to lie before a magistrate - civil court judge. But because they just wanted to try forcing me out of the property unlawfully, they are now serving a five year prison sentance.
When at university we had our washing machine start leaking and it was damaging the flat downstairs. It was a Sunday and the landlord said he wasn't paying for the emergency call out fee. I said that's fine, let it carry on leaking and you can pay for the repairs to the flat downstairs. Plumber was there within half an hour.
