Should Banksys Identity Be Revealed?
Ask a Question
BANKSY’S true identity could be revealed in just days as the mysterious artist faces a High Court battle.
The graffiti artist – whose work has gained him worldwide fame – is the subject of legal action accusing him of defamation.
Now, Banksy has filed defence documents at the High Court – which is an unexpected move as he was expected to concede the lawsuit to avoid revealing his true identity.
Banksy first came to notice for spray-painting trains and walls in his home city of Bristol during the early 1990s.
Street art and graffiti can be considered criminal damage, so initially it is thought the artist chose to be anonymous to avoid a run-in with the law.
Do you think he should be revealed or think his true identity should remain a secret ??
No it shouldn't at all he doesn't want the fame it's his choice I don't think he's done anything wrong it's just the councils wanting money he does art and very good at it
I love the mystery, he's identity should remain hidden, he's art work is amazing, l don't see it as criminal damage.
I'd prefer it to be a mystery, but to be honest I don't really care, it doesn't make any difference to my life
I think that he should remain anonymous as that’s how he chooses to be an I love the mystery of seeing his street art as his work is amazing
If he wishes to be anonymous he should remain so. He’s a good artist but I don’t agree with graffiti vandalism in general. Different if permission granted.
He has broken the Law, Civil and Criminal, he should face the consequences. Not a particularly good artist when all is said and done.
chrisbarker5252 I see your point, although I would much rather look at his graffiti than some scribble of a name and a pic of a big nob or a rude insult to some poor named individual... how many of those graffitists are so doggedly pursued?
I wonder how much money has been spent on chasing him down and what better good it could have done.
Perhaps they think they are making an example of him, but I think to his potential copiers, it is more likely that he is being made more of a hero and role model.
The mystery is definitely part of the appeal and as long as there’s not a legitimate reason to reveal his identity then he should be allowed to keep it private
Leave him alone . Far more serious issues of criminality whereby the perpetrators should be identified for public protection. Not Banksy!
Surely if he wants to remain anonymous, then let it be? But it depends on the circumstances, particularly if it’s a ‘having your cake and eating it too’ situation. It won’t make a difference to my life if his identity is revealed, so either way…
Personally I think he should remain anonymous. Yes technically his work is vandalism….But he is a brilliant artist. It’s not like he’s painting stupid tags, anything obscene or ridiculous like a lot of graffiti.
Maybe if the Police tackled real criminals who are a threat to society then we wouldn’t be having this conversation!?? The pathetic woke brigade only go after easy targets like 13 year old autistic girls or OAP’s sat on park benches like they did during the plan-demic!
The country is on its knees and the high court is dealing with a street artist!?? I truly do weep for the future!
No! Certainly not. The great works are an inspiration to many. Keep up the good work Banksy.
He should be left to keep his identity secret, besides it adds a touch of mystery and imagination - where will the next picture be...? He's the modern Scarlet Pimpernel - they seek him here, they seek him there....
Bansky is a psychological operation of the establishment to fool the British public into thinking they have some sort of caped crusader-esque vigilante looking over them. It's a blatant grab-and-steal from the world of superheroes to keep the ignorant masses placated by thoughts of underground rebellion.
When this revelation happens, you will all see the true length of your puppet strings, playing you like a fiddle. There never was a Banksy, there was only a lie to keep you sedated.
I don’t think his identity should be revealed. I don’t see his work as graffiti- its art. And whether he has permission or not a lot of people appreciate seeing his work. I would be happy for him to decorate the front of my house!
Also - a little mystery in this sad world is quite nice.
suevernon1968 It's vandalism as he does not own the property and sprays paint on it.
PhilipMarc i would rather see that than the so called ‘tags’ that are seen everywhere. I think we should just agree to differ on this one
Just a pretentious cretin who pretends to be "against the system."
Show who he is and so he can be credited for his vandalism, uh, I mean "art."
